Fairfield County Market Lamb Tagging and Weighing Procedure for 2021

Over the past year,  the COVID-19 pandemic caused us to change the way we do many things in life that had become seemingly routine. Fortunately, in most cases, advances in technology have allowed many of these changes to take place almost seamlessly, and in many cases more efficiently than ever before. The annual Junior market lamb tagging, and the weigh-in for the MQP lambs in Fairfield County is an example.

If you plan to exhibit a market lamb in the 2021 Fairfield County Fair, complete the registration survey linked below by July 2!

Youth who plan to tag-in market lambs for the ‘live’ show at the Fair in October, and/or weigh in lambs for the Muscle Quality & Performance (MQP) contest will be asked to do three things prior to this year’s July 10 tagging day. By completing a brief, on-line survey, exhibitors are asked to tell us how many lambs they plan to bring to be tagged, the scrapie tag number for each lamb, and what time they would like to arrive with their lamb(s) to be tagged, and in the case of MQP lambs, also weighed.

Specifically, the step-by-step process includes . . .

1) The deadline for ownership and possession of a market lamb project in Fairfield County remains July 1.

2) Youth/families planning to weigh/tag-in market lambs for either the live show or MQP contest for the 2021 Fair must complete an on-line survey, found linked at http://go.osu.edu/taglambs, by July 2, 2021. Complete only one request survey per family.

3) When completing the survey you will be asked for the name of each individual lamb exhibitor in your family, the scrapie tag number for each market lamb, and you will select the time between 8 and 10:15 a.m. that you will arrive at the Fairgrounds with your lamb(s) for tagging on July 10.

This process is similar to what was employed for market beef tagging back in March. That process proved to be most efficient for the volunteers while they accomplished check-in, and also minimized the time livestock were required to wait in line while on livestock trailers.

For more information on this new tagging and weighing process for your 2021 Fairfield County Fair market lambs, contact Junior Fair Director Chuck Miller at: keywest100@att.net.

Fairfield County Ag Society Plans for Full Fair in 2021…and continues to improve Fairgrounds, too !!

Over the past year, despite dealing with many activities and events being cancelled including the Senior Fair activities in 2020, the Directors have continued to make improvements on the grounds such as new LED lights in the buildings with funding opportunities made available through AEP.  Work also continues as we update the antiquated waterlines on the south side of the Fairgrounds.

In February of 2020, the Directors passed a motion for the price structure of the tickets for the 2020 Fair designating a portion of the ticket sales would be used for improvement projects on the Fairgrounds.  As you will remember, the 2020 Fairfield County Fair was a Junior Fair only and no admission was charged to the Junior Fair exhibitors and their families. Fast Forward to April 2021 . . . plans are currently being made for the return of a FULL FAIFIELD COUNTY FAIR in October!!

Today, if you would like to support the efforts of the Fairfield County Agricultural Society you are invited to become a member of the Society by purchasing a membership ticket which will allow Continue reading Fairfield County Ag Society Plans for Full Fair in 2021…and continues to improve Fairgrounds, too !!
