Lab 3- AEV Design Concept Screening and Scoring

Lab 3- AEV Design Concept Screening and Scoring

This lab is a continuation of the Creative Design Lab. The team looked at each member’s design compared to the generic and standard design. Next, the team figured out what criteria in the designs were most important to the mission and goals of the team. They decided upon 7 main criteria and weighted each on importance. Next, the ran a screening tests on all 5 designs. The top two scoring designs were then built and ran on the track to be able to run a full scoring test. After this test, one design was chosen as the model that the team would work with going forward. The criteria that the team decided upon were (in increasing order of importance): balance, simplicity, durability, cost effectiveness, weight, and drag. After the screening test, Matthew Ray’s and Joe Gruber’s designs were top scored. These two designs were built and tested. On the scoring test, Matthew Ray’s design scored higher so it was chosen by the team to use as our base design for the future labs.
