We will collaborate with our partners to connect parents in the child welfare system with opioid disorders to evidence-based treatment and link them with a peer recovery supporter.
Expected Outcomes
- Outcome 3.1: Child welfare agencies will screen all 80% of parents entering the system for substance use disorder related to opioid, using the UNCOPE screening and assessment tool.
- Outcome 3.2 Of those with opioid use disorders, 75% will work with a family peer recovery supporter.
Study Design:
- We will evaluate this goal and outcomes using a quasi-experimental design through a two-stage sampling procedure
- First stage consist of utilizing the Ohio START and treatment as usual comparison counties
- During the second stage we will match families receiving intervention services from the ECI interventions with substance using families in each of the two types of comparison counties
- We will use the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) that contains a field which indicates whether a substance use screen has been completed
- Having access to this field will allow us to easily assess if there has been an increase in the use of substance abuse screens during the intervention period
Measures:
- Both expected outcomes will be measured by the SACWIS data that is maintained by the Ohio Department of Ohio Jobs and Services
- The Needs Portal will also have information on when peer recovery supporter matches are made and the frequency with which these visits occur
