Nurse Executive Students Additional Immersion Hours

Per the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, all DNP students must earn 1000 post-baccalaureate clinical/immersion hours. The OSU DNP Program includes 500 hours as part of the curriculum.

DNP Post-Master’s Nurse Executive Track students that are admitted with less than 500 clinical hours from their Master’s program will work in collaboration with their advisor following new student orientation to develop a plan to earn the necessary clinical (immersion) hours. This plan will consist of students enrolling in NRSPRCT 8405- Nurse Executive Introductory Immersion Experiences. This course can be repeated, and is variable credit from 1-6 credit hours (1 credit hour = 37.5 clinical/immersion clock hours).

Once the student has developed this plan with their faculty advisor, they will submit the “Nurse Executive Additional Immersion Hours Form” in Beacon. This should outline the student’s plan to earn the total amount of immersion hours needed. Ideally, this will be completed prior to entering NP8898.01 during the final year in the program.

After the form is submitted in Beacon, it will be approved by the faculty advisor and the director of the Nurse Executive track. It will then flow to the Graduate Program Manager, who will update the student’s plan of study. If the student is not enrolled in the correct amount of credit hours, they will receive an audit notification for “mismatched credit hours”. If they receive this notification, the student should verify their plan of study in Beacon.

During NRSPRCT 8898.01 and NRSPRCT 8898.02 students will conduct a self-audit assignment as part of the course. Through these assignments, if a student appears to be short hours, they should work with their faculty advisor to correct this.
