Approval process

  • The student will complete all the information on the electronic Immersion Plan form and submit to their faculty advisor.
  • The student’s faculty advisor reviews and approves the electronic draft Immersion Plan via electronic signature and returns to the student. If any recommendations for refinement to the proposed Immersion Plan are determined by the faculty advisor, it is the students responsibilities to make those updates and get final advisor approval.
  • The student must submit their signed immersion form including their mentors’ name, email address and site location to CON-ClinicalPlacement@osu.edu by the second week of the semester of enrollment in 8898.01/8898.02. Students must also ensure that all mentors have provided their CV/resume and completed a DNP Mentor agreement.
  • Clinical Placement will verify that an agreement is in place with the student’s site (if they are spending 50% or more of their pre-immersion/immersion hours at a specific location for 8896, 8897, 8898.01 and/or 8898.02). If a new agreement is required, students should allow 3-6 months for a new partnership to be established
  • Once Clinical Placement has received all mentor information/paperwork, site agreements and the signed immersion form, the student’s faculty will be updated and the mentor/site will be added to Typhon.
  • Immersion Plans may undergo development as the student progresses. Any substantive changes should be incorporated into the Immersion Plan, reviewed and approved by the faculty advisor. Clinical Placement office should be notified of any preceptor/clinical site changes.
  • The Immersion plan should assure that students with an indirect patient care focus demonstrate the following abilities at the end of the experience:
    • Define actual and emerging problems.
    • Conduct comprehensive organizational, systems, and/or community assessments to identify health or system needs.
    • Design aggregate level health interventions.
    • Demonstrate an expert level of understanding of nursing and related biological, behavioral and other related sciences.
    • Create effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders for achieving health-related organizational or public policy goals.
    • Design patient-centered or population-focused care delivery systems or policy level delivery models.
