Annual Merit Compensation Process
The Annual Merit Compensation Process (AMCP) provides an important opportunity to recognize and inspire achievement and to reinforce performance and accountability. Performance assessments are a critical component of professional development and thus are required for all employees. This is the opportunity to recognize the highest performers, so a distribution of raises based on performance should be provided rather than an across-the-board approach. Where appropriate, the college will consider market and equity disparities and incorporate those adjustments during the AMCP process whenever possible.
Each year the Provost’s office provides guidance for the annual merit compensation process. This guidance includes what the merit pool target is, reinforcement of our compensation philosophy, and a call for transparency.
The Dean will request faculty and staff salary recommendations during AMCP from the Associate Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs. These recommendations may be for base salary increases, one-time cash bonuses, and combinations of cash bonuses and increases. This reflects the changing nature of the compensation strategy to both maximize salary dollars and address equity and market issues, particularly related to recruitment and retention.
Collegiality, civility, mutual support and respect for others are strongly held values in the College of Veterinary Medicine. We support diverse beliefs and the free exchange of ideas and expect that faculty, staff, and students promote these values and apply them in a professional manner in all academic endeavors. The College is committed to evaluating the practice of these values as part of the annual merit and performance processes.
Salary recommendations will follow the University’s compensation philosophy for a performance driven process with consideration given to market and equity issues.
Criteria for distribution of the annual increase will include recognition of outstanding achievement, recognition of market pressures, recognition of department, college and university service, and recognition of collegiality and professionalism.
