About Me

My name is Anthony Cuva, and I am a first year student at the Ohio State University. I am a Business Scholar majoring in Data Analytics, and I plan to specialize in Business Analytics. On campus, I am involved in the Big Data Analytics Association. I also participated in Hack-a-thon as well as Buckeyethon this year.

I am from Mentor, Ohio (30 miles east of Cleveland) and graduated at the top of my class of about 650 kids. I have two younger sisters, one who is coming to Ohio State next year. I am a huge Cleveland sports fan and enjoy going to games with my friends and family. I also enjoy playing sports, although I am not that good at them.

My experience at Ohio State has been incredible. There are so many opportunities to get involved and make a difference. My favorite part so far has to be the football games in the Fall. Beating the team up north this year was by far the greatest game I have ever been to. My passion for sports will hopefully turn into a career, as my dream would be to work in the front office of a professional sports team doing sports analytics.

My freshman year has been unforgettable, and I look forward to continuing my academic career at Ohio State in the years to come.

Artifacts

One on the most memorable experiences I have from my first year was visiting Columbus Zoo Lights with fellow Business Scholars. One weekend in December a few of us decided to check out the event together. I had a great time seeing the animal exhibits as well as the festive light display. The time spent at the zoo was a great way to bond with my new friends. This group picture we took in front of the main light exhibit symbolizes friendship, childhood memories, and a feeling of holiday joy. As a child, I loved to look at lights with my family, and I was very excited to reminisce and experience this with my friends. This trip was also a great way to destress before finals. I am thankful for all the connections I have made through the Business Scholars program, and I look forward to making more memories in the future.

Year in Review

Going into this year, I set two main goals that I wanted to accomplish. The first was that I wanted to get more involved on campus this year. I achieved this goal by joining Sigma Phi Epsilon and also getting an executive board position in the Big Data Analytics Association. Joining SigEp was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have seen myself grow immensely over the past year. For example, I have become more self-confident and challenged myself by doing things I otherwise would not have. I serve on the recruitment committee as the Data Chair and also help out with the programming committee. Participating in brotherhood retreats has taught me perseverance and that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I also moved into the house and have built great relationships with incredible people. I look forward to seeing how I will grow over the next 2 years in SigEp. I also became a liaison in BDAA and have expanded my professional network. I have helped this organization by increasing our contact with faculty and students. I am extremely proud to see how much I have grown through these involvements. My second goal was to secure an internship for the summer. I am excited to announce that I will be working as a Business Technology Intern at CAS in Columbus this summer. It took many hours of resume critiquing and networking, but my hard work has paid off. I am looking forward to working and meeting some amazing people over the course of the summer. This was probably my biggest accomplishment of the year. Also, the STEP experience has been an incredible journey this past year. I have planned a 1o day domestic trip to travel to national parks out west with 2 of my close friends. I cannot wait to embark on this trip in a few weeks. There was a lot of time spent carefully planning for this trip, and I am excited to see how this experience will further help me to grow and reflect. Overall, this sophomore year has shown me how important it is to participate in extracurriculars as these out of the classroom experiences are essential to personal development. I am looking forward to the second half of my collegiate career as I know there is still room to grow.
