Second Year Review

Over the course of this past year, I have experienced many amazing things.  I have had highs and lows and everything in between.  The fall marked one year in both of my major organizations of Students Consulting for Nonprofit Organizations and Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity.  In SCNO, I was a Project Manager again and this time for the School Performance Institute.  Combining my desire to teach with working for a social enterprise that deals with best teaching practices for gap-closing schools was a true treat this fall.

Furthermore, I was also student teaching at Whitehall-Yearling High School in Whitehall.  I was teaching ninth grade English and it was amazing.  The kids were great and I learned a lot from my teacher.  I was able to create lesson plans and facilitate classroom sessions to begin to understand what it is like in the classroom.  I also worked with my teacher to develop a system for missing work when students are absent.

In the spring semester, I took over the role of Vice President of Recruitment for SCNO.  In this role I had the opportunity to curate the class of consultants that I wanted.  I made it harder to receive an interview and made the acceptance more selective because we received the highest number of applicants in SCNO’s history.  This was seen as negative in the eyes of the university and some in Fisher College of Business.  The hardest parts of the year came with dealing with the Fisher College of Business and the ULEO office, which seems weird being I am not even in the business school anymore.

After all of those dealings, I was fortunate enough to go to London for the month of May.  There I had a marvelous time exploring London and some of England.  I also was able to go to Brussels the day after the EU elections which was really cool because Brussels is the capital of Europe.
