“The Bigger Picture” is a protest song by an American rapper “Lil Baby”. Lil Baby dropped this song around the time George Floyd was killed. Lil Baby shows solidarity with the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests calling for justice against police brutality in the United States and systemic racism.Throughout the song, Lil Baby explains what life is like as a Black man, while telling examples of how Black people have been hurt in this world we are living in. “I find it crazy the police’ll shoot you and know you dead but still tell you to freeze.” Baby is referring to a murder that happened to a black individual who was already dead but the police still told them to freeze. Baby is bringing awareness to events that happened that people might not know about. When listening to this song I did not know this happened to I googled it. Baby also goes on to say ” Every colored person ain’t dumb and all whites not racist, I be judging by the mind and heart, I ain’t really into faces.” This is my favorite verse in the song because it addresses certain stereotypes people are holding. Some people see a black person and hold a bias that they are not intelligent. While some people see a white person and assume they are racist. I am glad Lil Baby acknowledge these stereotypes because that is what’s making the world a hateful place. If we all ignore what’s on the outside and pay more attention to how people are on the inside, I think they world would be filled with less hate.
I was very glad that Lil Baby made this song, and decided to share his thoughts with the world. I highly recommend listening to the song if you haven’t already. Not only does he address police brutality and systemic racism in our country but also talks about his past as a Black man. He explains that he did not have a choice for some of the things he has done in his life. He was trying to survive. But now that he has a platform he is bringing awareness to people who just might not understand.
Black Panther is a Marvel movie where almost the whole cast is African American, and has number of black women in powerful roles. Black Panther is a movie that appreciates the richness of both black culture in the United States and African culture. Wakanda is a fictional country that represents what Africa could have been without colonization and perpetuation of false narratives.
Because I am a African women, this movie really spoke to me. I am amazed at the way Wakanda of portrayed, as well as the women portrayed in this film. Normally, in movies women are not given the powerful roles but In Black Panther, there are many, many women in powerful roles. For example, Nakia is a talented Wakandan spy and War Dog, as well as T’Challa’s former girlfriend. She fights for people who do not have a voice. There is also a group called Dora Milaje. This group is an all female military group that protects the King and the fictional nation of Wakanda. This is the very first movie I saw that consisted of an all female military group. Have you watched a movie that had this?
Black Panther was a movie that showed young kids anything is possible, representation is important. Because I grew up without seeing super heroes that looked like me, it made me not feel represented. I am very glad Black Panther came to life, giving children all over the world a chance to feel seen and heard.

Hello, my name is Coumba Sow and welcome to my podcast Yo, is this systematic and justice? During this episode I will be discussing an event that happened that I consider an example of injustice. Many of you may have heard the name Brianna Taylor trending on social media Pat platforms as well as trending on the news. But do you really know what happened to Brianna Taylor? Throughout this podcast I will also include audio clips of the interview between late Brianna’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker and Gayle King.

A terrible event happened involving three police officers that led to the murder of Brianna Taylor. Brianna’s home was broken into around 2am by the police. Here’s an audio clip of Kenneth Walker explaining his point of view what happened back in house, watching the movie, take us to that moment when your life really changed forever is allowed bang at the door. And no nobody was responding. When we sat with. You all did ask who is it several times. Several times both of us knows no response. Brianna’s home was broken into around 2am by the police and the police were trying to find a suspect who was already in police custody at this time. During the interview with Gayle King Kenneth Walker explains that he fired one shot because he did not know there were police officers at his door he thought someone was breaking in so he tried to defend him and his girlfriend as well. As a result of this, the police fired more than six shots but six shots entered Brianna Taylor’s body which killed her.

After searching her home, they did not find any incriminating evidence against Brianna. Here is how Kenneth Walker described the gunshots

I guess in the middle of all the gunfire like she screamed like outside in her hand. You are holding her hand. Yeah, like while this is happening. I put her down to the ground. But you know, she was just scared. So she just didn’t get down. So in the middle of all of this, you realize that she’s been hit. wish she alive at the time she was still a lot of gunfire stopped. She was like bleeding and stuff and I was holding her. Now the next one I called my mom. You called your mom first. Yeah, I told her that somebody just kicked in the door and chapra she

as you can hear at this point, Kenneth Walker still did not know it was the cops firing the shots, he still thought someone was breaking into his home firing shots into his girlfriend’s body. After the gunshots stopped firing, the officers took Kenneth Walker to the police station still leaving Brianna Taylor’s body in the room. Here’s a another clip of Kenneth Walker describing what happened that night

for me, and another officer an unmarked car and he wasn’t in uniform and stuff. And he came into my window. But his tone was way different than everybody else’s who was just on the scene. How so different how he told me that this was that this was a misunderstanding. And we’re gonna get to the bottom of it and asking me that I need anything that I need water and this man.

As you can see, this is the moment where the officers realize that they have made a mistake, and they just killed an innocent soul. Because of this event, African Americans all over America as well as their allies were furious. This left a huge impact on the African American community because now black Americans do not feel safe nor protected in a place they consider their home and from people who are supposed to be protecting them. I distinguish this as systematic injustice because a black woman did not get the justice she deserved. She did nothing wrong but died and her killers are still roaming free. This speaks to the black community because they see this event as underlying racism. In my opinion, I think all three of those officers should have been in jail because their body cameras were also removed somehow, which is also illegal. And they also murdered a young woman. These three officers need to go to jail because Briana Taylor’s life mattered and she deserved way better. All around the world. African Americans are treated unfairly just because of the color of their skin. Brianna deserve better and African Americans deserve better. So do you think this

is an example of systematic and justice. What do you think should happen to the cops
Breonna Taylor’s name has been trending for months now. A horrific event happened involving 3 police officers that lead to the murder of Breonna Taylor. Breonna’s home was broken into around 2 am by the police. The police was trying to find a suspect who was already in police custody at this time. The police fired 6 shots into Breonna’s body, which killed her. After searching her home, they did not find any incriminating evidence against Breonna. Meaning she was completely innocent. An innocent life was taken and she deserves justice. On September 23rd, Breonna’s murderers were left off the hook. Only one officer was charged with wanton endangerment because he put her neighbor in danger for firing those 6 shots. Breonna Taylor did not receive any justice. African Americans all over America, as well as allies are furious over this decision. This left a huge impact in the black community because now black Americans do not feel safe or protected in a place they considered home. I distinguish this as systematic injustice because a black women did not get the justice. She did nothing wrong but she died and her killers are free. This speaks to the black community because they see this event underlying racism. In my opinion, I think all 3 of those officers should be in jail because their body camera were removed somehow which is illegal and they murdered a young women for no reason. These 3 officers need to go to jail because Breonna Taylor’s life mattered and she deserved way better. This relates to the topic of implicit bias, which we covered this semester. Implicit bias is an unconscious racial steotype made by an individual who already had certain thoughts on a social out group. During this event, the officers displayed implicit bias because they had previous thoughts on African Americans which led them to display these horrible actions. I am linking an article that contains the interview with Breonna Taylors boyfriend, Kenneth Walker. Walker was also at Breonna’s house when the officers broke in. He gave a very detailed explanation on what happened in his point of view. If you scroll to the very bottom of the article, you will find the recorded interview to watch. Breonna Taylor was a beautiful woman, whose job was to save people. I am attaching her picture so everybody can know what she looked like.
