Student Wellness Center Coaching Services
The Office of Student Life Student Wellness Center supports all students to reach their full wellness potential. Through individual coaching, group workshops, outreach, and programming, they aim to promote holistic wellness opportunities. Individual, free Wellness Coaching returns Monday January 13th with 200 sessions available each week available to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students both in-person and virtually.
- Scarlet and Gray Financial Coaching: This nationally recognized program helps students manage finances, including budgeting, credit, debt, and investing.
- Wellness Coaching: Wellness coaching supports students in navigating stress, anxiety, relationships, and other personal challenges while promoting overall well-being.

STEM service hour/volunteer opportunity
Scientific Thinkers is seeking volunteers for the Spring 2025 semester! Scientific Thinkers STEM Outreach is a student organization that is designed to promote STEM activities in Columbus schools. Our volunteers lead school visits at Parkmoor and Mansion Day Elementary Schools that focus on hands-on science experiments to bridge the gap created by underrepresentation and underfunding of STEM programs. No experience with teaching is required and all majors are welcome!
For anyone interested in volunteering, we will be having our orientation session on Wednesday, January 22nd at 7:00 pm in the Physics Research Building (room 1080). This orientation is mandatory if you wish to volunteer at either of our schools as we will provide necessary paperwork and information, so make sure to mark your calendars! If you are unable to make the orientation at this time, please reach out to this email or wang.14701@osu.edu to ensure you receive the volunteering information and paperwork. Our school visits will be on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon/early evening from January 29-March 6.

Postdoctoral Job Opportunity: The Tufts Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Awards Program (IRACDA)
Tufts IRACDA prepares talented young scientists for the multiple demands of an academic career in biomedical research. Scholars spend on average 75% of their time conducting bench research and 25% of their time in career development activities. Key features that make our program attractive to postdocs are:
- In this 4-year program, the first year is funded by the research mentor with Years 2-4 funded by the NIGMS IRACDA grant. For these latter three grant-funded years, we provide salaries of 77k and up! The exact level is determined by mentor funding capacity in &ear 1 and years of postdoctoral experience.”
- Outstanding research opportunities in cell and developmental biology, genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, chemical biology and nutrition.
- Development of teaching skills through mentored classroom assignments at minority-serving institutions in the Boston area and workshops on teaching methods that encourage active learning.
- Workshops on essential skills such as grant and manuscript writing, mentoring, lab management, and scientific presentations as well as coaching throughout the job search process.
- A tight-knit community of postdocs interested in academic careers plus opportunities to network with scholars in the 20 other IRACDA programs across the nation.
- Successful job searches: We have placed 48 of our 54 alumni (89%) at institutions of higher education across the country, with 85% of these being tenure-track positions.

Dean’s Student Advisory Board Seeking Applications – February 10, Application Deadline
Arts and sciences graduate students are encouraged to apply for a two-year position on the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Student Advisory Board. The Board consists of fifteen students who advise the Dean on matters pertaining to students such as academics and student life. Because this position is for two years commencing Autumn 2025, applicants should not plan to graduate before Spring 2027. Meetings are held once a month during the academic year from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on a weekday. To apply, combine a one-page resume and the completed application into one pdf document and send as an email attachment to rottersman.1@osu.edu. Graduate Student Opportunity: Graduate Teaching Toolkit on Writing Diversity Statements
Join the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning’s Graduate Consultants for our Graduate Teaching Toolkit: Diversity Statements on January 27, 2025, from 11:30am – 1:00pm in the Barbie Tootle Room, Ohio Union. Lunch will be provided!
These specialized workshops are designed by graduate students, for graduate students, for exploring core competencies, supporting professional development, and building community across graduate students.
In this workshop, we will explore tips and conventions for writing diversity statements, a document that is commonly required for applications for faculty positions. This session is relevant for both GATA (Graduate Associate Teaching Award) applicants and graduate students who are preparing for the academic job market. Participants at any stage of the drafting process are welcome to attend.
During this workshop, participants will…
- Identify and avoid common diversity statement pitfalls.
- Structure a diversity statement around goals, methods, and impact.
- Reflect on what they are currently doing to contribute to diversity, equity, or inclusion in their teaching, research, and service.
