Help monarchs: attend Project Wingspan training on 7/9 in London, OH

Pollinator Partnership in conjunction with the Ohio Pollinator Habitat Initiative will be holding a workshop in London, Ohio to teach volunteers interested in contributing to Project Wingspan how to ID and collect seed from our target list of monarch and rusty patched bumble bee forage and host plants. Participants will also learn proper data collection techniques. Please see below for details and make sure to fill out the form to let us know if you will be attending.

This workshop is designed to train for all levels of participation (Team Lead, Data Collector, and Seed Collection Volunteer) and participants will also learn proper data collection techniques and how to conduct a seed collection event.

THERE IS LIMITED SPACE AT THE VENUE. THE REGISTRATION WILL BE FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED. PLEASE REGISTER TODAY TO ENSURE YOU HAVE A SPOT.

  • Registration will be cut off when the venue is filled or by July 6th
  • Please arrive about 10 minutes before the start time to give yourself an opportunity to sign in and get a seat. The Visitor Center opens at 9 am, so if you arrive early you may have to wait to enter the building.

At our training you will learn how to:

  • ID the 29 native wildflowers we’re targeting for this project
  • Responsibly collect seed from the landscape
  • Perform a seed cut test
  • Collect field data
  • Properly follow our seed collection protocol
  • Use our GIS data collection application on your smart phone (for designated data collectors)
  • Weather permitting, how to do all of this in a field setting

What to bring:

  • A notebook and writing utensil
  • Water bottle
  • Field clothes (we may go outside)
  • Bug spray

If you plan to be a Team Lead or Data Collector for the project, we recommend that you download the free Survey123 app from your mobile device’s app store before arriving.

Upon completion of this training, all registered attendees will be awarded a digital personalized certificate of completion.
