CBEC Updates for 2/10/15:
- There are two diagrams available to help occupants understand their thermostatic controls, one for offices, and one for labs.
- In case you have been left wondering, there is supposed to be a remote to control the wall-mounted display in every conference room. Since they are not secured by tethers, we cannot guarantee the locations of these remotes. In every room I’ve checked, they are in one of the cabinet drawers to the left or right of the displays.
CBEC Updates for 11/24/14:
- PLEASE DO NOT bring network cables and TRENDnet switches from your old labs and offices into CBEC. Older cables will slow your endpoint connectivity to 100Mb/sec, down from the native speed of 1000Mb/sec for CBEC network jacks. Old TRENDnet switches will also limit bandwidth to 100Mb/sec. In addition, we have confirmed that old TRENDnet switches can occasionally fail and produce a broadcast storm that defeats the loop protection on our switches. When this happens, the entire CBC network, across 7 buildings, will go down. New cables and new network switches are available on demand from computer support. Send email to support@chemistry.ohio-state.edu.
CBEC Updates for 11/10/14:
- If you plan to move instruments controlled by XP computer systems, you must notify us by sending email to support@chemistry.ohio-state.edu before you connect these systems to the network in CBEC. We can set up a restricted network for your XP systems that will allow you to save to the Windows file server, access network license servers, etc. If you connect an XP system to an open network in CBEC, it will be compromised within minutes of connection. We have already experienced this with several XP instrument computers. It is very difficult if not impossible to recover an XP system that has been compromised by a modern piece of malware.
- If you plan to move Linux computer systems, you must notify us, again by email to support@chemistry.ohio-state.edu. Linux systems in the department run on their own private network, and we will have to supply that network to whatever wall jacks you will use in CBEC.
- We have a store of new CAT-6 LAN cables to connect your computer equipment to the network in CBEC. Please do not bring cables from your old labs and offices. Please let us know how many and what length cables you will need and we can deliver them to your new labs and offices.
CBEC Updates for 11/4/14:
- Going forward, moving materials will be dropped off in two new locations:
- 4114 NW (Parquette lab)
- North half of room 2023 EL (Goldberger student office)
- As a reminder, if you have questions related to your move, please send a representative to one of the standing Tuesday morning meetings in the 2nd floor CBEC bridge conference room (230) 10:30 – 12:00.
- The CBEC front doors will remain locked until the end of the calendar year. Your keycard access should be activated at the time your group moves. Please contact Jerry Park in Material Management with access problems.
Thanks,
Gerry
Google Doc links with information of interest to future occupants of CBEC:
- Office assignments. This is a combination of a project doc from 10/27/14 and a Space Committee presentation from Spring 2014. There is some redundancy because I wanted to stay true to the original documents. Part 1 has bullpen assignments. Part 2 has those plus PI office assignments.
- The Laboratory Move Manual details on how to prepare to move to CBEC.
- The move schedule updated as of 27-Oct-14.
- CBEC building turnover slides from the presentation in mid-October.
- CBEC move orientation slides from the presentation in mid-September.
