The cause was a network problem in Hagerty Hall. There should not be a recurrence.
Month: August 2012
ASC services unavailable
ASC services, at least but not necessarily limited to Exchange e-mail and calendars, are down. We know that ASCTech is working on the problem(s), but we currently do not have an estimated time for restoration of services. We will update when we learn more.
Scheduled Maintenance Window
All CBC computing services, including Windows and Linux file services, print services, and networking, will be unavailable on Tuesday, 14-Aug, from 6:00 p.m. until midnight. During this time we will perform server and network switch hardware and software maintenance. Please be aware that services might appear to be available before midnight, but availability will be intermittent.
Repair from the network outage this morning
We still have several services offline or only partially functional. We just had to reboot winfs to get a bunch of shares back that had gone offline because they are on an array over in Smith Lab. Both of our Linux guys are out of the office today, so we suspect that there will be more work required for Linux services to be fully restored.
Network loop on Evans 2nd Floor
When a single network cable is plugged into two different ports on the same network, the feedback created can bring down the entire network. Such was the problem today. We have not isolated to a particular lab on Evan 2nd floor, but we will find the loop within the next hour.
Chemistry and Bioschemistry service interruption
We are still trying to learn the scope of the problem. Many services are down right now. We will post updates when we learn more.
