Chemistry Computer User,

All group shares on the windows file server WinFS will be offline on Friday, 07.02.10, from 7PM until 9PM. We are migrating many of the group shares to a larger volume. If this will cause you a significant interruption, please reply to this email so that we can make arrangements which better fit your groups’ schedule.

This information has been posted to the chemistry IT blog at http://osuchemistry.info.

Thank you,

WinFS Reboot Wednesday, 06/16/10, 11:30PM

We have identified a problem with data backups on the windows file server.

In order to maintain proper backup protection of your data, it is necessary for us to reboot the windows file server outside of a scheduled maintenance period. Specifically, we must reinstall the backup agent.

This reboot will be taking place Wednesday, 06/16/10, at 11:30PM.

We recommend that you be logged out at this time for a duration of about 30 minutes.

If you are logged into your windows workstation during the reboot, your computer will switch to ‘offline’ mode and data access to your home drive should not be affected. However, group drive access will be offline until the reboot is complete. Logging out, then logging back in will switch your computer back to ‘online’ mode.

Incoming email service restored

Incoming email service has been restored.  It will take a few hours for external mail servers to notice the system status change and re-deliver delayed messages.

Incoming Email is being delayed

As of now, all email from outside the department is being delayed due to a problem with the anti-spam solution. The problem is being investigated, and will be fixed as soon as possible. Further information will be posted once it becomes available. Thanks, John Puskar, Systems Manager, OSU Chemistry
