Strategical Note Taking

The digital technology for taking notes I want to share is the notability, which is free for OSU students on iPad.  “Notability gives you multiple options for notetaking, from writing (or drawing) your notes, typing your notes, to audio recordings of your lecture (just make sure to ask permission first). ” I always take my iPad to the class, and I can use my iPad pencil to write down notes on this app rather than a notebook. I can also upload ppt to this app and highlight important things or add comments on the sides.  Moreover, I can also search for the keywords when I review for the exams which means I don’t need to take too much time to search for the knowledge point. Plus, you can easily attach the pdf annotations or take a record for the class.

Another example of note taking technology I have learned from this course is the Google Keep (Links to an external site.): Quickly capture what’s on your mind and get a reminder later at the right place or time. Speak a voice memo on the go and have it automatically transcribed. Grab a photo of a poster, receipt or document and easily organize or find it later in search. See a comparison between Google Keep and Evernote. I think I will try Google keep in the future, because take a look at notes through my phone by just login to my google account sounds convenient to me.

Time Management

This is the first time I get in touched with Trello. I think is a useful tool for me to manage my schedule, and here is the screenshot of my Trello board. I named the board as “Midterm 2 weekend study”, because I will have three midterms in the next week and how to manage my time well for this weekend is very important. The reason why I found Trello board is useful is that I can divided those tasks into different categories like “to do”, “doing”, and “done”. In this case, it’s easily for me to track what I have done and what I need to do. On the other hand, I can also set up the due time for each task and set the color for them. By setting the color, I can use the red color to separate the most urgent tasks from other tasks for priority. I have also noticed that Trello will remind you before the due date which is really appealing. I think I will try to stick with this tool for a while to help me form a habit of planning for each tasks.

Reflection about learning strategies

To be honest, I must admit that I have a lot of problems on my study. First, I always cannot manage my time very well. I always plan to work out and reading books regularly, but I actually never insist on doing those things. Besides that, I also found that I always don’t have enough time to review for my midterms which leads me to get an unfavorable score on my exams. I also like to study in the dorm because I feel comfortable in there, but this is not a good place to study. I always be interrupted by my roommate’s conversation and I always want to eat something or take a nap or play mobile games while studying.

The reason why I am facing so much difficult is that I am a procrastinator. Although I have known that set up a schedule is helpful for me, I always tell lies to myself “I’ll feel more like doing this tomorrow.” (Marano 2016). I would like to put up setting up a schedule which leads me lack time management. In fact, I don’t like to start to review for my midterms also reflects that I am a procrastinator. I always make excuses for myself that “I will work best under pressure” and I will not start to review my lessons until the last night before the midterms.

Creating a study space and celebrating accomplishments might be useful solutions to my problems. I think library might be a better place for me to study, I will not be interrupted by those things and I also need to “turn my cell phone off to avoid losing focus every time” (Landry 2018). By celebrating accomplishment like visiting the gym or reading a novel, I can improve my productivity and I can also reasonable arrange my space time to refresh myself.
