Benjamin Burns is a fourth-year Data Analytics major at The Ohio State University, with minors in biology and honors mathematics. He is a graduate from Winchester High School in Massachusetts.

Ben has a diverse range of interests, including biology, computer science, statistics, and the mathematical theory underlying machine learning algorithms. He is pursuing a research career in biomedical machine learning, a field that combines computer programming and statistical analysis to explore biological processes through the development of artificial intelligence. He plans to work collaboratively within medical and pharmaceutical communities to develop deep learning methodologies that illuminate neurodegeneration pathways and identify potential cures.

Ben is a member of the University Honors Program and Stamps Eminence Scholars Program at The Ohio State University. He is one of OSU’s four 2024 nominees for the Goldwater Scholarship, and he is a recipient of OSU’s Computer Science and Engineering Undergraduate Research Award. In 2023, Ben was nationally recognized as an Honorable Mention in the Computing Research Association’s Outstanding Undergraduate Research Awards. Ben is a member of Dr. Xia Ning’s research lab and works part-time as a Data Analytics Student Assistant at the Translational Data Analytics Institute. Outside of his academic pursuits, Ben enjoys distance running, playing the piano, going to the gym, and serving the elderly through volunteer work. Ben is the founder and CEO of GenLynk Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to mitigating social isolation among senior citizens by facilitating intergenerational connections.
