Artifact

For my 3rd artifact I am including a photo of some of the cards written for a service event I lead for my scholars program, Mount Leadership Society Scholars. This event was making cards to go in packs of food given to students fighting food insecurity. Our event was initially going to pack the boxes but due to COVID-19 we had to adjust. Making the cards was a way for students to stay involved and while not being able to actively go volunteer. This year has been a big shift for me, going from mostly just attending service events to being part of the planning. Figuring out how to adjust service events to fit the unsure times of COVID has taught me about flexibility and creative problem solving.

G.O.A.L.S

  • Global Awareness: My coursework at Ohio State has given me an increased global awareness by giving me the opportunity to learn about other cultures. I get the chance to learn about culture in Israel in my Hebrew language class. I also will have more chances to enrich my global awareness for the general education courses I am requires to take.
  • Original Inquiry: I am currently a member of Ohio State’s STEP program. In this program we are exploring different project to pursue to help us grow as people and bring us closer to our GOALS. I hope through this I will be able to engage in research or an internship that will help me gain knowledge in my field.
  • Academic Enrichment: I pursue academic enrichment in all my courses at Ohio State. I am a double major in Data Analytics and PPE and have been able to take many interesting and challenging courses that have helped me grow as a student and prepared me for my future.
  • Leadership Development: I have had to the chance to develop my leadership through many of the sudden orgs I am a part of and through Mount Leadership Society Scholars. In Mount, I am the chair of a service committee where I lead a committee and plan service events. This role has taught me a lot about leadership and helped me grow and learn as a leader.
  • Service Engagement: Through Mount Leadership Society I get many opportunities to engage in service. As a Service Committee chair, I plan the service events for first years and attend them to help run them. As a second year, I engage in a year long service project. I have loved getting to stay involved in Mount Service projects through my committee and hope to be able to continue to engage in service throughout my years at OSU and my life.

For my Scholars Program, Mount Leadership Society Scholars, we did a service project called Empty Bowls to raise money for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. For this project we created and sold bowls; each bowl raised $100 dollars in groceries for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Throughout high school, I had worked with the Mid-Ohio Foodbank as a volunteer many times at both the Warehouse and at South Side Roots Cafe. It was really amazing to get to continue doing work for an organization and community I know a lot about, while also getting to expand the types of service I was doing and take on more of a leadership role. I am grateful to be in a program that is allowing me to expand my knowledge of service and grow as a leader.

About Me

My name is Zahava (Zoe) Blumenfeld. I am a freshman at The Ohio State University. I am a pre-Data Analytics major and a part of the Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program. I grew up in a small town called Bexley in central Ohio. I am a logical learner and enjoy critical thinking and problem solving. I don’t know what I want to do for my career but want it to be involved in math and computer science because of how those subjects utilize logical thinking. I am also a verbal learner and benefit from talking through new information with others to help me better understand it. In high school, I was involved in different community service organizations around Columbus and plan to continue throughout my time at Ohio State.

Career

As a Data Analytics Major I hope to pursue a career in the field of Data Science. I have been taking courses and learning about different careers and opportunities to help me work toward this career goal. This last summer I worked in an internship to get experience in my field and am currently working to be able to get more experience this summer. I am still learning a lot through my major classes on what I am interested in learning and pursuing but am excited to keep gaining skills and knowledge to pursue my career goals.
