Q: What brought you to Japan?
A: I came to japan because I was studying japanese in UNiversity and my professor asked if I wanted to go to Japan, I was very nervous about going for the year but my professor said ‘It’s just one time around the sun”
Q: How has living in a different country changed your life?
A: Before I lived abroad I was in my head a lot. I was always worried about other people’s opinions and how I would dress or act and it affected how I lived my life. Coming abroad by myself really forced me to experience who I am as a person and learn about myself.
Q: What advice do you have for Black youth and creatives?
A: You just have to do it. As a black american who went abroad in university I felt I was going to stand abroad and I knew there were no other black students who did it before me so I had no mentor, it was really scary for me. If you think too much about it, it’s going to delay your action and make you hesitant. Even if you’re the first to do it you should carve the pathway. Don’t be afraid to be weird and express your niche interests. Just express yourself and do whatever you want to do that will make you happy.
