Putting Columbus in His Place

In this article, Christopher Columbus’ diary about his experiences in the Bahamas, what he thought was the Indies, is explained and abbreviated. For example, “Columbus saw the Indians an Adamic race” and he sought literacy to “decipher this baffling, unwritten world.”  It gives some background on where he actually was and some insight into what the natives thought of Columbus, in addition to thoughts and ideas from his diary. It talks about the miscommunications and utter confusion on both sides due to neither side having a common language and misinterpretations of signals and hand motions.
