In 1492, Christopher Columbus was viewed as a man with immense ambition, resilience, and intelligence. He was a man eager to explore the world and be “the first” on newly discovered lands. He knew what he wanted and stopped at nothing to get it. For this, Columbus was greatly admired. Now, in 2018, Columbus’ legacy and the admiration for him, such as his national holiday, is the source of much debate and tension. Though socially and politically correct in his time, today his actions are compared with the villainous deeds of Adolf Hitler and others who have prompted mass genocides throughout history. This website was built to argue Columbus’ villainous identity as seen through a modern light. Explore this page to hear our argument and to develop your own.
