Allison Gale

My name is Allison Gale and I am an Air Transportation Major. When we were young, my classmates and I would constantly be asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. This question was always answered by future princesses, fairies and mermaids. However, none of these aspirations appealed to me. I was going to be a pilot. My answer was always responded to with a look that encompassed a mixture of confusion and surprise followed by a phrase along the lines of, “that’s a boy’s job.” Although this phrase was a  constant throughout my life, I never let it squander my aspirations. I decided that I wasn’t going to let society’s path limit me, nor was I going to believe that I couldn’t do something just because I’m a girl. These doubts from my peers sparked a fire in me and I became completely infatuated with every aspect of aviation.

The summer after I graduated high school, I completed a discovery flight at a local airport near my home. Sixty minutes of bliss, a touch-and-go and a successful landing came and went, and I was sold. This experience left me awestruck and beaming with uncontainable  excitement, for it was this moment that I knew that this was going to be my life. The flight instructor referred to me a “natural” and was hesitant to believe that I had never flown before. From that day on, I decided to put my all into aviation, and strive to be the very best pilot I can be. I chose aviation as my major immediately upon acceptance into Ohio State and will continue to grow in my knowledge and passion for aviation for the remainder of my time here. Through this major, I will be able to hopefully complete my Private Pilot Certification and begin working towards my instrument ratings and then Commercial License and ATP Certification. When I graduate, I hope to find a job with a private jet or charter company. Once I work my way up and gain as many hours as possible, I hope to find a job in a regional airline or a cargo company. If all goes as planned, I will be able to reach my goals and enter officially into the aviation industry as a professional female pilot.

Case Webb Introduction

Hi my name is Case Webb, I chose Aviation as my major primarily because when I was younger I traveled a lot and it kind of just stuck with me. So I thought to myself what better way to travel then to be a pilot and be paid for it. I hope to one day fly for a private company such as netjets in order to travel to more places rather than the same route every day that comes with airlines.

Brendan Hammond’s blog

My name is Brendan Hammond and I am originally from Marysville OH. I chose Air Transportation as my major to learn and obtain my pilot certifications to become a commercial airline pilot. I currently have my private pilot certificate and this is my first semester flying at OSU. When I graduate I will be in the process of building hours to get hired by a regional airline. The ultimate goal is to fly for a major airline company in the years to come.

Blog 1 Introduction Trevor Williams

Trevor Williams is from Easton, Pennsylvania as well as a 2nd year at The Ohio State Univesity. I am apart of the Morrill Scholars Program, Bell National Resource Center and for student organizations, I’m a member of the Buckeye Space Launch Initiative. I currently studying Logistic Management with a minor in Aviation.

The reason why I selected to have an Aviation minor was that it allowed me to gain access to a new field that I never thought about doing and taking Aviation class on campus really has supported my interest in the aviation field. Ever since I was 5 years old I had an interest in aircraft and that interest started with World War II aircraft. From there my parents brought me a flight simulator game and from there it increased my interest in flighting more. As time passed I gain an interest in being a fighter pilot and telling about all my stories being a fighter pilot. After that phase of my life, I wanted to own my own transportation company and the aviation field was a good way to see if I even liked the transportation industry. So far I have enjoyed all the classes that I’ve been taking in aviation and I think it’s going to be a good industry for me to be in.

When I graduate I was planning on going to grad school and when I’m in grad school I was planning on to continue my quest in getting my pilot’s license. So for grad school, I was thinking about going to a school that has a warmer climate as well as a lot clear sky so I can get my pilot’s license faster. After grad school, I was thinking about either working for rail company or an airline but I haven’t decided yet. My grand goal is to own my on rail company and bring passenger trains back to the United States and allow more people to travel to the United States as well as explore this continent.

My name is James Happensack. I am currently an Air Transportation major, but I started out in Aviation (the engineering one) and then switched to Air Management before I finally switched to Air Trans. I chose the Aviation major(s) because coming out of high school I wanted to fly. After looking at a few school’s engineering programs my junior year, I realized that engineering wasn’t something that I wanted to pursue, but I wasn’t sure exactly what else I would do. Then I visited Purdue and saw their aviation program and I knew I wanted to be in the air. I then toured Embry Riddle and OSU after and ended up choosing OSU as it was the cheapest option and close to home. Even with my Air Force scholarship, the other two schools would be too expensive. Coming to OSU was a great choice. It has put me in a great position for my future as the aviation program and the AFROTC program are two of the top in the country.

Looking at my future, at least for the next 6-12 years, I will be in the Air Force. I say 6-12 years because I am not sure what the length will be until I find out what job I get. If i get my number one choice, Air Liaison Officer, I will go into a 2 year training pipeline and then have a 6 year commitment after I’m done with that (and ALO is Spec Ops that call in air/artillery strikes from the front lines for the Army spec ops(rangers and berets) and the Marines/Navy). If I am not selected for this position, I hope to get a pilot slot, which has a 2 year training pipeline and then 10 year commitment after that. Finally, if neither of those happen, I would like to be an Air Battle Manager (ABM) which controls the air in certain parts of the world and direct our air forces, and that would be an 6 year commitment. So, it really depends on which job I get. After my first “enlistment” is up, I’m not sure what I will do, I could re-enlist or I could come to the private sector. But, I have plenty of time to figure that out.

I am Mitch Perez. I am a sophomore from Canton, Ohio. I have always been interested in flying since a young age, so choosing the Aviation major was an easy choice for me. As a member of the Navy ROTC unit here at OSU, I plan on flying for the Navy after I graduate. I am not taking any flying classes during college, but I will be going to military flight school after. I hope that the classes I am taking now will give me the upper hand when it comes to flight school after college.

Hello my name is Brad Kuntz and I am currently majoring in aviation management in the Fisher College of Business. Ever since I could remember, I have always been fascinated with airplanes and what makes them fly. I was exposed to aviation at a very young age because my dad was a crew chief in the United States Air Force so we got to go to many different air shows. At first I thought aviation was mostly a hobby until finding out that there were multiple majors at the college level for me to take. At first I wanted to be a pilot and still have aspirations to get my private pilot license at some point, but I am leaning toward and have a greater interest in the business side of aviation. For some reason I am extremely intrigued by the logistical nightmare that goes with keeping an airline/ airport running smoothly. I would love to be able to work in any realm of the business portion of aviation such as flight scheduling, logistics, operations management, finance, maintenance operations, or anywhere else. I intend on receiving another specialization through the college of business in either operations, logistics, or finance to help broaden my skills for the future company that I am employed by. To get there I need to receive my bachelors degree in aviation management preferably with another specialization, an internship with an amazing company to allow me to get job experience, and with my time in the Air National Guard as a crew chief I feel like I will be a very desirable candidate for any company that looks at my resume. One of my life goals is to become the CEO of a major airline. My ultimate goal is to start my own airline from scratch and work my way all the way up to Delta, United, and American. As ambitious as that goal is, I need experience. I would start off by working for an existing airline and working my way through the ranks learning how to properly operate and airline and what can be improved on and incorporate that into my own. If the opportunity presents itself, I’ll do it in a heartbeat. This is my life goal for what I would like to accomplish in the world of aviation in my lifetime.

Blog One- Introduction

My name is Kartik Malik. I am from India. I am currently in my sophomore year pursuing BS in Aviation from The Ohio State University. When I was 7, I was send to a boarding school for my education which is located in a famous hill station of India i.e. Nainital. I found science subjects fascinating and exciting which made me thought about pursuing my Bachelors in Science. I still find it awesome that man has put together his creativity, innovativeness, metal and grease and brought Aircraft and other faster means of Transportation in existence.

I still remember running out of my house as soon as I used to hear the sound of the airplane to see it flying over me. I used to glance it for quite long and think that how is it possible for something to fly. I was curious to learn more about this and asked my Grandfather to arrange a trip so that I can also get a chance of flying in an airplane. Surprisingly, one of my grandfather friend was a Captain in Indian Air Force and I was fortunate enough to meet him and ask him for a ride. Few days later, I went on a small ride in the aircraft with my family and as soon as the wheels left the runway, I was sure of what to do the rest of my life. That day I decided of becoming an Airline pilot.

I came to United States for getting better practical knowledge and good flying skills which will assist me in conducting a safe flight operation. My aim is to get into a US based airline due to the healthy work environment and good pay scale offered by them. The benefits which the airline gives to their employees is also a considerable point for me as I love travelling to new places and meeting new people.
