Fifth Week at Arsenal

Another week has come and gone at the Training Center in London Colney. Some of the Arsenal Ladies have started to come back to practice for the second half of their season while the men’s team are in action for their respective countries during Euro 2016 in France.

While many of the players are playing in France, it is still all business as usual– except for the constant rain. Rain has been in the forecast for the rest of the week. During the downpour of rain, jobs include from cleaning the tractors to pulling weeds. As a Ohioan, most of the rain that has fallen in England in three days would cover a month’s worth of rain back home. But this could be also why in places like England, Scotland, and Ireland has been well known for their green grass.

My mowing skills at work in front of the Training Center

Speaking of grass, since the last posting there is still ongoing renovations. I am still helping with the mowing with the grounds crew with the different pitches on the triplex mowers, help with the primo mowers, etc. I have also been helping the Gardner once in a while with mowing the landscape to pulling weeds.

I did not go out at all this weekend and experienced working my first weekend at Arsenal. It was different working the overtime weekend. One reason for the overtime work on the weekend is grass still grows, no matter the day. There is also a different feeling to working due to nobody being at the center except you and six or seven others who are working in the weekend. The only negative working on weekend is the possible late nights going to bed after a 12+ hour day. But the job needs to be done and I feel that I get to learn more about the working of the training center.

The weather should be clearing up from the rain for the rest of the week (hopefully). Next week is when many of the people at Arsenal will be returning to work at the Training Center and prepare for the upcoming season at Arsenal.
