G.O.A.L.S.

  • Global Awareness: In order to learn more about a culture and language different from my own, I’m currently minoring in Arabic. One of the best ways to learn about a culture is through its language. Several students in my Arabic class are from Arabic countries or have relatives that live in Arabic countries, and we frequently have discussions about the differences in our cultures. In the future, I am considering participating in a study abroad program to further cultivate my global awareness.
  • Original Inquiry: I am currently a physics major, and in the future I definitely want to be involved in research. I am a member of the Polaris program, which is a program that fosters mentor/mentee relationships between undergraduate physics majors and graduate students. I’ve learned more about research and original inquiry through my mentors, and am currently exploring what areas of physics I may want to further pursue through research.
  • Academic Enrichment: To further develop my academic enrichment and to develop experience, I am currently applying to and have applied to several internships that are relevant to my future career. These internships will give me vital experience from out of the classroom. Also, I am enrolled in several challenging classes that have pushed me to develop into a more focused student. I have also added a double major in order to become a more well-rounded student. I’m currently struggling in one of my classes, but I have enlisted the help of a tutor and formed a study group. The biggest lesson I’ve learned from this semester thus far is that it’s okay to ask for help; it’s a sign of a student who is committed to learning and is not too prideful to admit when they require assistance.
  • Leadership Development: Honors & Scholars students develop leadership skills that can be demonstrated in the classroom, in the community, in their co-curricular activities, and in their future roles in society. To develop my leadership skills, I am a member of the First Year Leadership Initiative, which aims to foster leadership skills in first-year students at The Ohio State University.
  • Service Engagement: Honors & Scholars students commit to service to the community.] In order to commit myself to acts of service within my community, I am currently a part of many different clubs with a community service element. In the future, I plan to join a club that is fully committed and focused on service. One of the clubs I am currently a member of is the Women in Math and Science Club; this club has outreach events to inspire young children to pursue fields in science and math.
