About this site

This site is intended to be a up-to-date overview of our instructional design approach and processes–a job aid to accompany the complex, never-quite-the-same work of designing online courses side by side with faculty at Ohio State.

About our team

Instructional designers

Our instructional designers collaborate one-on-one with instructors to create high-quality online learning experiences based on best practices in teaching and learning.

[This guide is focused on the work of this role.]

Instructional technologists

We have team members who directly support the instructional designers on the ideas and execution for using instructional technologies in our online courses. These staff members maintain a high level of expertise (drawing from experiences across IDs and courses) on Carmen and other tools. They also provide us with updates related to Carmen and other Ohio State tools.

Instructional multimedia specialists

Among the instructional design staff are a talented group of multimedia and educational technology specialists. They work one on one with our faculty and instructional designers to develop engaging, functional, appealing, and accessible multimedia elements for our online courses. These elements could include video and other interactive activities students can use to help master course content.

Faculty Liaison

Our representative with instructors outside of the instructional design collaborations is a dedicated faculty liaison. This team member handles and routes consultation requests, brings new faculty on board each semester, and checks in with instructors before and after they teach their online courses.

ODEE-library liaison

We’re lucky to have a person on our team who works directly with us and University Libraries. This team member connects us and the instructors we support to copyright services, subject and area librarians, and the library’s information literacy support.

Student assistants

Student assistants on the Distance Education team help advance the Distance Education goals in a variety of ways. From graphic design and video development to helping build the online courses in our portfolio, DE student assistant can easily express their personal and professional interests through meaningful and impactful projects and tasks.

Operations and program support

Here to advance our programs are the amazing operational groups within Distance Education. Project management, data analysis, student services and outreach, and state authorization collectively comprise some of the most important components of the Distance Education team and are crucial to ensuring we meet our goals.
