Important Dates and Deadlines

Each academic term, it’s important to know the deadlines for decisions like using grade forgiveness or withdrawing from a class.

Deadline to Apply For Grade Forgiveness

  • Full Semester (14 Weeks): Friday, February 2
  • First Session (7 Weeks): Friday, January 19
  • Second Session (7 Weeks): Friday, March 9

If you are repeating a course this semester and want to use grade forgiveness to remove your first attempt from your OSU GPA calculation, you need to submit a grade forgiveness petition by this deadline. Don’t forget!

Deadline to Drop  Course Without a W

  • Full Semester (14 Weeks): Friday, February 2
  • First Session (7 Weeks): Friday, January 19
  • Second Session (7 Weeks): Friday, March 9

This is the last day to drop a course without receiving a W. If you are on probation for lack of progress due to too many withdrawals and need to avoid earning any W’s this semester, pay attention to these dates. If you aren’t on probation specifically for an excessive amount of W’s, then earning a W while on probations is fine! Your email notification of your probation status will point out the requirement to avoid any W’s if you are on probation for excessive withdrawals.

Final Deadline to Drop Course Without Petitioning

  • Full Semester (14 Weeks): Friday, March 23
  • First Session (7 Weeks): Friday, February 9
  • Second Session (7 Weeks): Friday, April 6

This is your last chance to drop a course during the term. You do receive a “W” as a final mark, but this mark won’t impact your OSU GPA. A W is better than a low or failing grade! After these deadlines, your course(s) cannot be withdrawn unless for extenuating circumstances, such as being called up on active military duty or being hospitalized during the final weeks of the semester.

Enter these dates on your personal calendar, so you don’t forget as each one approaches. You don’t want to wind up feeling like this:
