Awesome rabbit clinic coming up! November 8 9:30am at the Washington County Extension office. If you would like to learn more on how to raise market rabbits this is a good event!
We had our second STEM day of the year on July 31st. The theme was A Day At the Farm! The kids had a great time!
They got to make animal masks while learning about livestock, also they made tractors and learned about them, they also painted sheep while learning about shearing wool!
We played games quite frequently!
For snack we had pretzels and grapes.
Thanks to all of our older youth for their hard work and here’s to another great year for our cloverbuds!
Skillathon is an event that test the knowledge of the livestock species that youth exhibit at the fair. In Morgan County, it is required by the Senior Fair Board to complete to exhibit at the county fair, receive a premium, and compete for premier market exhibitor. There are three stations involved: 1) a review of the project record book and questions on quality assurance, 2) an interview based on knowledge of the animal, and 3) an activity to complete based on knowledge of the animal. This is a learning opportunity for the youth to apply their knowledge and practice life skills.
We need some volunteers to donate their time as judges for skillathon. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. You do not need to be an expert in livestock, and you do not have to stay all day! We have a morning shift option from 8am – Noon or an afternoon shift option from Noon – 4pm. You are more than welcome to stay all day (8am – 4pm) if you’d like.
If you’re interested in helping, we just need your name, email, and your time commitment. You can either call the office 740-962-4854 or email her at whisman.30@osu.edu to sign up.
The office would like to take a moment to shout out all of our county placing and state fair recipients for still projects in 2025!

It is time again for youth to be thinking about the Junior Fair Royalty Contest. Please note: We now have two volunteers who are now serving as our royalty program coordinators. Moving forward the Extension office will no longer be managing the program, we still will be the pick-up/drop-off location for applications and the place for interviews. Due to this there will be some major changes coming to the royalty program!
We have the opportunity to run for Queen (16-18), King (16-18), Princess (8-12) and Prince (8-12) as well as now we have species ambassadors slots for every species! To run for a species ambassador you must be 13-16 as of Jan 1st to run. Note you cannot be King or Queen AND be a species ambassador!
Youth enrolled in the following organizations are eligible to participate in the Junior Fair Royalty contest: 4-H, FFA, Skills USA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts or Farm Bureau Youth.
Interested youth need to complete an application and be interviewed. An application may be requested from the OSU Extension Office, to be mailed or picked up or find it online at morgan.osu.edu. Completed applications, including all required signatures, are due on August 4, 2025 by dropping it off or mailing it to OSU Extension, P.O. Box 179, McConnelsville, OH 43756. Youth need to schedule their own interviews for Monday, August 12th, by reaching out to Sophia Whisman. whisman.30@osu.edu or call the office at 740-962-4854.
The Royalty crowning will be moved to Monday at the Morgan County Fair right before the carcass show in the show barn! The chosen Queen, King, Princess, Prince, and species ambassadors will be required to participate in various activities during the Morgan County Fair. The Junior Fair Queen will be invited to participate in the 2026 Ohio Fair Manager’s Queen Contest. The expectation held by the coordinators is the Queen participate in this opportunity. Financial assistance is provided for this from the Morgan County Agricultural Society.
Applications will be available for pickup at the office as well as available on our website: https://morgan.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/morgan-county-fair
Cloverbud Day Camp has come and gone. All who attended had lots of fun visiting the fairgrounds for the day! Our theme this year was “A Day At The Beach” The youth got to experience what 4-H Camp is like while also doing beach themed activities!
The whole day was planned by our Older Youth in Training and Junior Leaders. They all did a great job!
Our rotations this year included making a picture frame with seashells, making a dolphin themed craft, playing camp games, playing with water guns, and having recreation with parachutes!
A big thank you to our adult staff, camp counselors and older youth that all came out to help this day run smoothly.
Attention all!
This message is about Cloverbud Day Camp on June 16th.
Camp was moved to June this year to accommodate to availability in Camp Hervida’s schedule. Due to this we have taken a huge hit for registrations for this camp.
Due to the low amount of youth registered, we must move this camp from our original planned location (Camp Hervida) to the Morgan County Fairgrounds. Reserving Camp Hervida can be costly, we only have registration for 9 kids to attend Cloverbud Day Camp this year so it will have to be moved to a new location.
Please note we are still accepting registrations for this camp until June 9th and it will now be at the Morgan County Fairgrounds.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Junior Fair Board advocated for more awards and they got approved!
We now will have banners through 5 for the market classes in the final drive!
Due to this change we now have many sponsorships opportunities!
We have openings in all species for market! They are 25.50 each.
Please call the office if you would like to sponsor an award!
