Great job, Sarah. This a very interesting study and you presented it very clearly. I wonder what leads the parents of deaf children to provide more support — whether it’s something in the infants’ behavior or their perception of needing support.
I was wondering whether coding/observing infants’ behavior before the action would help answer this question.
I was wondering about this, too. I wonder if there is a scale available that evaluates parents’ perception of children’s competence?
Also, fantastic job!
Thank you Rachael! If there is a scale available I think measuring what they believe to be their child’s competence would potentially support what we’ve found in this study with scaffolding. The significant difference of Level 2 scaffolding between parents of deaf children versus parents of hearing children suggests parents of deaf children are more likely to give that extra support to their deaf child.
Thank you Derek! I agree, I would love to be able to further examine that difference.
Great presentation, Sarah!
Thank you very much!
