Surveys: A Study in Tool Development.

On our survey page, you’ll find an example survey tool, dedicated to understanding rural intimate partner violence in the United States. We use exploratory analysis methods like surveys to understand the context of a particular health outcome in specific space or place. With this survey, we were seeking information for the development of a website that would allow us to collect surveillance data and direct individuals to resources to escape instances of IPV. Our hope was to reach individuals through advertisements on social media sites and collect anonymous information.

Imagine for a moment, stepping into the heart of a public health emergency response. In a series of four audio diaries, we imagine ourselves as front line epidemiologists taking on the Opioid crisis in rural Portsmouth, Ohio. How will we respond? what can we accomplish in the short term? What databases and information tools do we have at our disposal and what do we still need? We try to understand the importance of Public Health Informatics through this exercise of perspective taking and role play.
