Tulip leaves

Tulips-trees, also called yellow poplars, are a straight tall tree with alternate, simple, uniquely 4 lobed leaves (pictured above).

Tulip trees grow relatively very quickly and straight up making them have very tall, straight trunks. The wood is straight grained, fine, soft and resistant to splitting. A hollowed out single log was often used by pioneers and Native Americans to make long, lightweight canoes Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Native Plant Information Network (ACSA2).
