Kenneth O. Smith Scholarship Fund

Established July 7, 2000, by Mr. Smith and others through The Foundation. The fund provides renewable scholarships to deserving undergraduate mechanical engineering majors known as Kenneth O. Smith Scholars.

Kenneth O. Smith was born in May 1920 in Circleville, Ohio. His parents were accomplished professionals and Mr. Smith took pride in his family’s achievements and accomplishments. After graduating high school, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Airforce transferring to the Army after attending the Army Special Training Program. He served during World War II and his tour of duty took him to Germany and France. After attending Wilberforce University for one year, he transferred to Ohio State and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a lifelong avid Buckeye fan.

Kenneth retired from General Electric after working 20 years there as an engineer. Mr. Smith had a common name, but he was no ordinary man. He admired great men. He served those around him every day of his life. He “paid it forward” every day of his life. Mr. Smith passed away in 2006 at the age of 86. His legacy will continue through the scholarship he established in the Mechanical Engineering department.
