Herman Van Moss Glunz was from Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from Ohio State in 1912. During his time on campus, he was a member of the American Institute of Mining Engineers and a Cadet in Company C of The Regiment, a precursor to the ROTC program. Glunz passed away in 1973 while living in Norristown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. The H.V. Glunz scholarship was established in 1974 with money from his estate.
The scholarship is merit and need-based with a preference for students studying materials science with an emphasis on mineral industries.
