Artifacts Project-10 Songs

Artifacts Project

1) A Whole New World (Aladdin)
I’m positive I’m not the first person to pick this as the first song on their playlist. But I chose this song because it accurately describes that coming to college was coming to a whole new world. It took me a little while to figure things out and every turn there WAS a surprise. Ohio State said to me, “let me share a whole new world with you” and I said, “ok.”
2) Married Life from Up
I chose this as my second song because it’s an instrumental. When you listen to it, you kind of feel like you’re coasting along, just observing the spaces around you. Which is kind of what I did for a while, or most of the first semester. There are ups and there are downs, but in the end you figure it out and move along.
3) Can’t Help Falling in Love cover by Twenty One Pilots
I chose this song because I feel like the start of the second semester was a turning point for me. I finally felt settled in and like this was my home. No more feeling homesick, no more being confused. I was officially a college student and I started to fall in love with Ohio State.
4) You’ve Got a Friend in Me (Toy Story)
I feel like this one relates to my last song. Part of finally feeling comfortable here was finally being confident about the friends I had made. I think I have two people that I can call my best friends, a few left from high school, and some from my classes. But I continue making friends every day and I love getting to meet new people.
5) Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash
This song describes the feeling I had for most of second semester about my major. The pre-design program took a major toll on my sanity, which had me questioning if it was what I really wanted. I thought about switching to business and I kept saying that I wanted to wait until the end of the semester to decide. In the end though, I decided to stay.
6) Final Countdown by Europe
This song just really fits into the last few weeks of school. There’s finishing up final projects and assignments, and trying to do anything to bring those grades back up. I know it was really rough for me finishing my final portfolio and now I’m worrying about having time to pack up.
7) Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride by Mark Keali’l Ho’omalu (Lilo & Stitch Soundtrack)
I Chose to put this song here because even amidst all of the studying for finals, and packing up to go home, we need to remember to enjoy the time we have here. I’m going to miss my friends and campus like crazy over the summer. So right now I’m spending as much time with them as possible, taking minutes here and there to appreciate the beauty that surrounds me so I can think back on it when I’m missing it. This song has such a calm, but happy, fun and positive feel to it. Much how I’m feeling right now!
8) We Are The Champions by Queen
Of course this is my last song! WE MADE IT! I may not be finishing the year with straight A’s like I wanted, but I tried my best, I made it into my program, I made a really great group of friends and I’m leaving with my sanity. I’d say that makes me pretty successful for a first year. So, congratulations to everybody, and until next year Ohio State!

StrengthsQuest Reflection SP2016

StrengthsQuest Reflection

My strengths were: Achiever, Futuristic, Significance, Discipline, and Strategic.

The 3 I would choose to utilize and focus on for the rest of the second semester would have to be Discipline, Strategic (Strategy) and Futuristic (Future).

1.) I chose Discipline as my first strength to utilize because I feel that, especially in this moment, it would be very helpful to get me back on track and to take some stress off of my shoulders. I think it would be a good idea to sit down and map out a schedule that would help me to prioritize and get my work done in a timely manner, so that I spend less time staying up late and stressing, and more time feeling accomplished and relaxed. I need to discipline myself by focusing on school work rather than watching Netflix (*sad face*) or doing other things that distract me from what’s important.
2.) I feel that focusing on my strategic strength will help me to work better with others. By noticing changes in pattern or issues and finding alternative ways to proceed, I can learn to compromise and work well with others on group projects etc. This is actually something that could be very useful to me now as I’m working on my first group project in design.
3.) The last strength I’d like to focus on is Futuristic. I feel this way because lately, I’ve stopped thinking about where I want to go in the future. I’ve always been very goal oriented in relation to where I want to end up, but I’ve become so enveloped in the here and now of school, that I haven’t spent much time thinking about what I will do that I actually want to do if plan A doesn’t work out. I actually just realized tonight that I passed up a big opportunity with the STEP program. I didn’t even apply, partly because I wasn’t sure what it really was, but now I realize that I could have had a scholarship to study abroad; something I have always wanted to do and have been planning for quite some time. Even though I passed up this opportunity, I am going to block out some time to think about what I want in my future both here at Ohio State and in the long run.

Photo Partner Project: Breanne Mullins

The Photo Partner Project was definitely a surprising experience. When we first got the assignment I was worried that it would be hard to find a partner but Breanne walked right up to me and asked to work together. She seemed very serious to me before the project and like a very sporty person, so I chose for that to be her main identifier. Because of this, I thought it might be difficult for us to get to know each other. So I typed up a little questionnaire and printed out 2 copies so we could ask each other the questions. I let myself worry further because she wasn’t a very “excited” texter like I am; always using exclamation points and smiley faces as if that will let the person on the other end know that I’m genuinely interested. We decided on a time and chose to sit out on South Oval for the “getting to know you” portion of the project. Once we got out there and started talking I was so relieved. She was so much more friendly and animated than I thought. She was very easy to talk to and we had a lot in common. Things went so smoothly and it was also good to finally go outside and sit on the oval when it was nice and cool outside. For whatever reason, we couldn’t take the pictures right after, but eventually, we scheduled a time to meet up again. Taking the pictures was simple and easy. I do feel like we could have done better, but it’s so hard to get someone’s entire personality into one single picture. At the end of it, it was a very enjoyable experience and I think I made a new friend!
