Module 6: Searching and Researching

Dear students,

This week we learn ‘Searching and Researching’. “Another Look at ‘Search’ and ‘Research’” is the most useful thing I learned in this module because it helps me deepen my understanding of what is different between Searching and Researching. Search has a right or wrong answer, but research doesn’t have a right or wrong answer. It will help my academic writing in the future. Moreover, I knew that high school writing and college writing are different styles of writing from this module.

I have already put into ‘scholarly searches’ to practice. I have a lot of projects or academic writing each semester, and I usually find resources in the library or the internet because they offer a lot of resources, like books, databases. I have a tax project in the summer semester, and I search for tax data on the library website and analyze them. However, the library not only offers some resources but also helps me to save time.

I would put into ‘specific searches by domain type’ to practice in the future. From this module, I learn how to search for a specific domain in Google. It limits search results and shows me the specific website. From now on, when I want to search for something, I will use it. My mom wants to buy a TV on Black Friday, so I can use the way to find a good TV.

I would give students some advice, based on what I have read or experienced during this module. Firstly, don’t wait for the last day to start your academic writing because good academic writing needs repeated scrutiny and modification. Secondly, when you finished your academic writing, you should go to the writing center because they will help you to improve your writing skills.
