A comparision between two career

I chose two careers to future research: Library Director and Principal Architect.

Principal Architect

This career is actually the first one I saw and facinatied me, with a high salary $130,900. Since the percentage of my job satisfaction is 71%, it’s complicated and filled with leadership(73%managing people) and challenges.

Principal Architect matters considerable skills, like information technology projects, communicating with people effectively and creative ideas. Such ability for handling multiple projects, from my perspective, is necessary and interesting.

Meanwhile, principal architects usually tend to serve as a leader while arranging project plans, keeping managing the team and are always obbligato.

With various skills, both cloud computing and system architecture are totally important, with the highest salary. Designing and software architecture, however, pay less than market rate. However, the only disadvantage of the job I could thought is late career which is unfair for female to some extent. The data also shows that only 12% female serve as principal architect which I guess because of the age and marriage.

In the other hand, salaries are different in different locations.San Francisco, California is the highest and New York is the lowest, Chicago also has a great treatment. Senior Software Enginerrr and Solutions Architect are jobs with high requirements which means need a lot of experience.

Therefore, I totally supposed that the principal architect needs not only leadership but clever mind and determination. But it will be a appropriate job for me since I really like it and it’s obviously never-give-up mind required.

 

Library Director

Metioned about library director, I felt confused first because I never think it a highly paid job. It shows that the average salary is $54,700 and alsohave a 91% job satisfaction for me. The consist of the employees, meanwhile, have more fermale(79%) than male.

As a library director,it is obviopus that  people need to direct other staff correctly at all the time, and make sure the library is running in an organized manner according to established rules and that books and other library items are organized neatly and efficiently. Maybe library director need to be in charge of the hiring of library staff, like librarians and volunteers. However, its not appropriate for me.

Both administration and budget management are the most popular skills, leadership, is not very important though. I really like to show my leadership during my career fair which means working in a library may couldn’t able for me. At the same time, the salary of the job become higher with the increase of working year. It is means that the salary at first maybe could not afford me.

The good prospect is that the salary are bascially the same in different place (LA 43%, NewYork 43%, Atlanta 38%) so that I have much more choices in the future.

All in all, library director is inproper for me because it’s low job stress and low ability needed. I still prefer a job with great challenge and I would face it with enthusiasm and communication skills.
