Enneagram Test Results

The Enneagram test results showed that I am a Type 8 (Challenger). Upon reading the other descriptions of other types, I feel that the results are accurate. The four adjectives used to describe a Challenger (which, is also the name of my ENR Scholars family) are self-confident, decisive, willful, and confrontational. I feel that those words, though maybe not the first terms I would reach for, paint an adequate picture of who I am, especially in leadership roles. A lot of these character traits, when functioning at a high capacity, are ones that I hope to exude, such as being heroic, magnanimous, and a difference maker in the lives of others. However, I do not think that I have honed my skills enough to be masterful in my role yet. I was a bit alarmed at first to see names like Saddam Hussein and Donald Trump, but after a bit more contemplation I can understand how intense charisma could allow someone to accrue a fervent following like those individuals have.

In order to improve my level of development and maximize my potential, I need to start being more vulnerable with others. I feel that I am well-acquainted with many people, but have few close friends, especially at school; by putting myself in a position to confide in others and strengthen my relationships with those I interact with on a daily basis, I will be able to remove an emotional wall that separates me from others.

I think that I can apply this knowledge to my time at Ohio State by interacting with people of all different personality types and be quicker to metaphorically hand the microphone to other people. I always used to joke with my dad that “the only thing I hate more than driving is being in the back seat”; I believe that I can learn from this confining adage to increase leadership opportunities for other people and create a seat at the table for everyone.
