End of Year Review

This past year at The Ohio State University was so much more than I expected it to be. Ohio State was never my first choice for college, in fact at one point I swore that I never was going to attend school here, but now I am so glad I did and could not imagine going anywhere else for college. I have learned so much at Ohio State and made so many more connections and friends than I could’ve ever imagined. One of the classes that had the most impact on me was my biology class where I learned my interest in evolution and this led me to deciding to minor in evolution and ecology. As much as I learned in my classes this past year, I think I learned more outside of it. I learned how to study more effectively for my classes, because high school study habits did not cut it in college. I also learned that how to manage my time better and that there is usually enough time in the day to study as well as do things you enjoy, if you can manage your time correctly. I also changed and learned a lot about myself as a person in the past year. I one major change was that I gained a significant amount of self-confidence. I grew more confident in myself and stopped caring about what other people thought of me and this change made me a lot happier. I learned to just be myself, and not care what other people thought of me because no matter what I do there is always going to be someone who does not approve and there is no point in trying to make everyone happy. I also discovered that I was not good at chem and that I actually did not enjoy it at all, but as it was a pre-med requirement, I had to somehow not only pass but with a fairly decent grade. This realization led to me to a very important one, which was that even though I was not good at something, if I put enough effort into it, I could understand it and get a decent grade in the class. The learning curve of coming to college was a bit difficult for me in the beginning because while I had taken many AP classes in high school, actual classes in college required much more work than any AP class had in high school, and I had to teach myself to put in the time and energy that was required for these courses. I have had so many good memories in the past year, and while my suitemates and I went on some very fun adventures and did a lot of experiences together, I think my ultimate favorite memory would be when we all would just sit in the same room together, usually all in one bed, and talk about nothing but also everything at the same time. The nights where we could just sit with each other. I am so grateful to have been placed in a suite where I met some of my best friends. There are so many things I am looking forward to next year. I am so excited to be an RA and get to know my residents. I also cannot wait to just hang out with my friends again on campus and do random things. All in all this has been pretty close to a perfect freshman year, aside from the fact that we got kicked out and had to move to online school, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of college has to bring on.

Personal Leadership Style

I took the Enneagram test and the results told me I was a type 8 personality type. Type 8 personalities are known as the “challengers”. Our main personality traits are being powerful and dominating type, and tend to be self-confident, decisive, willful, and confrontational. I think that these results are fairly accurate because i do pretty much challenge every thing. While I am not the most decisive person on the planet, when I do decide what I want I do whatever it takes to achieve what I want. I can be confrontational when I need to be and I generally do not have a problem voicing my opinions and letting them be known. It also mentions that type 8’s is to protect themselves and be in control of their own destinies, which I agree with for myself.

To improve my level of development, I need to act with more self-restraint and not just go for everything head first.I also need to loosen up and let others take charge once in a while. Furthermore, I need to becoming more willing and open to people and allow them to help me, instead of thinking I can do everything on my own and denying help.

I can take this information to help me in the rest of my time at OSU, because I do tend to just try to do everything myself and not ask for help and that usually takes a lot out of me. I can start asking for help from others around and not only will this allow me to get help, but it can also help improve my level of development.

Columbus To Do List: Whit’s and Zoo Lights

To continue exploring Columbus, we decided to go to Whit’s Frozen Custard. I generally am a fan of frozen custard, but I absolutely loved Whit’s. The had a very wide range of options to choose from, and it took me about ten minutes just to decide what I wanted to get. Finally, I decided to get a mud pie whitzer, which had vanilla frozen custard with pieces of brownies and chocolate syrup on top and it was absolutely delicious. Getting just one scoop was more than enough to fill me up due to frozen custard being much thicker and filling than ice cream. We also bought a tub of German chocolate cake custard to take back to the dorm. That was also pretty good, but I did not enjoy it as much as the mud pie because the German cake had coconut in it, and I do not like coconut. Going into the building, it was very small and cute, I could see myself walking there while it was warm and enjoying the cozy atmosphere. I would recommend Whitz to everyone as it was very delicious and was that expensive at all, and it also a nice cool treat that is slightly different from boring old ice cream. Plus with all of their options, everyone is bound to find a flavor they will enjoy.

The second place we went was the Columbus Zoo for zoo lights. Despite living in Columbus since I was six years old, this was the first time I had been to the zoo during zoo lights. All the lights were incredible and my roommates and myself had a nice little photoshoot. The best part was taken pictures with all of the animal statues . I was particularly excited about taking a picture with the tiger statue as tigers are my favorite animal. We also received free hot chocolate with refills that helped us stay warm. Seeing the zoo lit up and all the animals at night was absolutely breath taking. I would absolutely recommend going to zoo lights to anyone who might be in Columbus during the winter as it is a whole new way of seeing the zoo. Due to living in Columbus pretty much my whole life, I did not really learn anything new about Columbus, however I did go explore places I had not been before. I am excited to keep exploring Columbus and finding all of Columbus’s hidden gems.

Columbus To Do List: ZenCha Tea Salon

Columbus has so much to do and offer. In order to explore Columbus more, I decided to do the coffee and tea list. I hope to experience a whole bunch of different types of drinks and hope to find a nice little cozy coffee place where I might like to go to study or to hang out at with friends. The first place on this list I decided to go was ZenCha Tea Salon. This tea salon was very cozy. Walking in it felt very homey and welcoming. They had teas for all over the world, a majority of which I did not even know existed. Along with a very wide selections of teas they also had breakfast foods. I ordered the eggs in a basket with a side of potatoes. This dish is now one of my favorite breakfast foods. I also ordered some tea. It came on a tray with the leaves and the hot water, and we had to pour it ourselves into the kettle to make the tea. I actually liked that we had to “make” it ourselves because it made it feel more authentic. Overall, I really liked this tea salon and could see myself going there to just have brunch with my friends, although I do not see myself going there to study. While it was very homey and cute, it was kind of small and I would feel bad taking up a table for a very long time just to sit there and study. However, I would definitely recommend this place to my friends as I absolutely loved the atmosphere as well as the food and tea.
