Artifacts

My Artifact is my poster that I made in Biology 1113 last semester. We were required to choose a virus to research in our lab groups and create a poster that essentially educated the rest of the lab on our specific virus. This project was many weeks long and required strong group collaboration and communication. Although everyone in the class was required to create a poster, I look at mine and feel accomplished. The poster makes me feel like a real scientist as cheesy as it is it to say. I don’t know if it’s the professional looking layout or the fact that it says “The Ohio State University” in the bottom left corner, but I think that this poster is the best artifact that I have gained in my first year here.

About Me

Hey everyone,

My name is Abby Zack. I’m from Pickerington, Ohio which is about 30 minutes outside of Columbus. Even though I live so close to campus it feels like an entirely different world here! I’m majoring in neuroscience and I’m hoping to attend med school after my four years here at OSU. I’ve been interested in studying the brain ever since seventh grade so to get to be able to take classes that are actually specific to my interests is really exciting!

I have a dog named Molly at home and a fish living with me here in Park-Strad. Outside of the classroom I like to run, swim, do workout classes with friends, bake, and color. I really hope to get involved in service/volunteering, research, and other fun clubs here at OSU. I can’t wait for the years to come here and all the experiences I’ll get to have.

Go Bucks!

Year in Review

This year has brought about a myriad of changes. From moving in to Park-Strad in August to returning home early in March, I have truly grown as a person and learned so many new things about myself and the world. This was the first year that I had to have a roommate and it taught me how to share my space and consider others more in my daily life. In the classroom, I have grown tremendously as a student. I never would have thought that I could learn so much aside from the actual material being taught in my courses. I have learned not only chemistry, biology, and neuroscience, but how to manage my time, how to set my priorities, and how to be resilient. Outside of the classroom I have matured in many ways and learned how to do laundry as a bonus. Moving back home has only showed me how well I fit at OSU and how much I am truly learning there. I hope that in the years to come I will continue to learn and grow (hopefully on campus and not via a computer screen).

G.O.A.L.S.

This semester I learned about a plethora of service opportunities available to me on campus. I took advantage of the service opportunities HSS hosted such as community commitment. I had a service project planned for the spring semester but unfortunately it was cancelled due to campus closing. I also joined a club on campus called Buckeyes Against Alzheimer’s that volunteers at a local nursing home for patients with dementia. I hope to do more service in the future in hospitals and elsewhere.
