What is the Brazuca?

Brazuca (brəˈzuːkə) adjective. 1. national pride in the Brazilian way of life

The Brazuca is the name of the official soccer ball used in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The name was chosen by a public vote of one million Brazilian football fans via social media. It won with a 70% majority vote. This name mirrored their approach to football (soccer) and symbolized their emotion, pride, and goodwill to all. In this vote, there were two other names in the running – Carnavalesca and Bossa Nova. This was the first instance that the public was directly involved in the naming of the World Cup ball.

It was designed by Adidas, the official supplier of the FIFA World Cup, and was manufactured by Forward Sports of Sialkot, Pakistan. Adidas claims that the Brazuca is their most tested ball ever, with a two and half year testing process. The journey of a soccer ball from raw materials to a manufactured product on the field is a long one.
