- When and why did you choose this major?
- “I chose this major my junior year, so it was very last minute. I chose it because while I still have the goal of going to medical school, I wanted to study something outside of the science field. I had always had an interest for Accounting, so I decided that I should just make the switch, otherwise I might regret not switching.”
- Do you feel you made the right choice of major?
- “Yes absolutely, I wish I would’ve switched earlier, but I’m very happy with this major. “
- What was your favorite major course, and why?
- “General Accounting courses, the problems are like puzzles, so I enjoy having to piece it together piece by piece before getting the final solution.”
- What was your favorite course outside your major, and why?
- “Asian Philosophies, I took it with a bunch of friends so it was a lot of fun, and it was cool to learn about a different culture in the world. “
- What kinds of extracurricular experiences have you had? Why did you choose those particular opportunities? How have they benefited you? What are your plans for after graduation?

“I’m very involved in Student Life here. I’m an RA, I’m a director in one of the bigger student orgs on campus, I’m a committee lead for my scholars organization’s leadership council, and I’m in College Mentors for Kids as well. I chose these, because these involvements really stuck out to me when i was figuring out how i wanted to get involved here. They’ve obviously made me grow as a leader, and pushed me outside my comfort zones allowing me to grow as an individual and student. After graduation, I’m planning to go to med school.”

Huzaphia Doctor is a friend of mine and a former teammate who I met through my high school tennis team. I choose to interview Huzaphia primarily because of his interest in attending med school. I am interested in going to med school but I am not yet committed to the idea and was hoping to gain some insight from someone who is. I was surprised to find that Huzaphia had not committed to a major until his junior year and was still on track to graduate in four years. Before I make a decision about this career path I need to weigh how much I want be a doctor against the drain of four years in med school. The most useful tool has been the work interest assessment which introduced me to many careers I had not yet considered.
