Personal Experience
I am bad at reading especially for online reading. When I read some articles through a computer, I often felt it difficult to concentrate. I was thinking it’s may because I didn’t get used to it yet. The position of looking at a computer is different from the position of reading printed books. I thought about reasons, but this week’s content directly answers my confusion and give me relevant solutions.
In the reading, Watkins (2004) mentions some points that I never noticed before. For example, he mentions changing the resolution setting of your monitor and using the visually impaired in software options. He also clearly lists nine steps of reading:
- Identifying the Purpose of Online Readings
- Previewing the Reading
- Creating a Good Reading Environment
- Active Reading, Questioning
- Taking Notes
- Increasing Proficiency
- Reflecting On and Reviewing Notes
- Developing Your Skills.
I didn’t think much about it before, I started to read the article directly. Although before I started, I had a vague awareness about the purpose of my reading, I often forgot when I reading. After reading Watkins’ article, I will try to clear my reading purpose and write it down before reading next time.
