The term G.O.A.L.S consist of five different aspects of well-being both as a college student and beyond. The first letter represents Global Awareness. To me, global awareness is your desire to be knowledgeable in environmental, cultural, and societal differences among people with different backgrounds. One way that I plan to improve my global awareness in my 4 years at Ohio State is to volunteer for underprivileged children through an organization called Project Impact. The next term is Original Inquiry, which represents the goal of always challenging the status quo and asking questions that promote further study. I will be participating in research at Ohio State which allows me to work on my original inquiry skills with my research mentor.
The third term in G.O.A.L.S is academic enrichment. Academic enrichment is the ability to take and excel in challenging courses meant to expand your broaden your scope of knowledge. The different honors courses that I will be taking are an example of increased academic awareness, such as various literature and performing honors courses. The next term is Leadership Development, which, to me, represents your ability to grow as a person to take responsibility for work that is done by a group. I plan to grow as a leader by engaging in multiple clubs, such as ENCompass and IAA, and becoming an officer in these clubs to take on more responsibility within them. The last term in G.O.A.L.S is Service Engagement. Service engagement represents giving back to the community to improve the welfare of others. I plan to serve the community by volunteering at Riverside Hospital, as well as participating in various service activities through Project Impact.
