Blog Post: Regressive Chinese Y.A Literature

Nowadays, Chinese Y. A Literature is stagnant even regressive because of several reasons.

First, most Chinese Y. A Literature is concerned with the political values, like the Communist Party and patriotism. In the literature, the authors describe the ideal and perfect communist society. For example, the government provides thoughtful kindness, beneficial social condition for citizens. However, the real Chinese society is corrupt and helpless, which means they can not provide any benefits and cares for adolescents. Therefore, the book is too fictitious, irrelevant and pale for them. This is one of the reasons that Chinese adolescent do not like to read those Y.A Literatures.

Secondly, children and adolescents in China do not have a reading habit. Because of the advanced technology, there are so many electronics divert their attention, like the computer, video game, smartphone, etc. According to a lot of parents’ reflection, in their childhood, they read so many classical literature, like Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin and Journey to the West. But nowadays, their children play the video game, chat on the phone and watch TV shows during their leisure time. Therefore, the book is more like the educational materials for them, which is compulsory. Most students complain that they feel so annoyed about the compulsory reading homework, they think it’s not necessary. And most students even cannot read the whole book insistently. As Yunxiao Sun says, “The increasing complexity of children’s lives makes it difficult to create children’s literature”

Thirdly, the other reason for the regressive Chinese Y. A Literature is a supervisory system. Nowadays, more and more writer begin to write some vulgar, unrealistic and meaningless books to make money. Those books are more interesting than classical Chinese Y. A Literature, but they tamper the history, provide some negative and incorrect values for children and adolescent, like sex, school bullying, and luxury life habit. However, those books and articles on the internet everywhere, some of them even published and sell in some stores. Most of the adolescent will choose to read those books instead of classical literature with positive values.

Therefore, if we want to improve Chinese Y. A Literature fundamentally. First, we should improve the quality of Chinese Y. A Literature, we could not just use the very classical and old books to attract students, which include some traditional and outdated values. Second, we should limit screen time for adolescents. Thirdly, we should have a more strict supervisory system to control the Chinese Y. A Literatures.
