STEP post-project Reflections 2021 Internship

I did a finance internship with CC Solutions LLC. Through Fisher Global Internship Program (Virtual in 2021) for my STEP project. I worked from January 25th 2021 to March 19th 2021 and my main task was to focus on updating the company’s annual Agency book which included finance and credit agencies from different countries.

Prior to participating in my internship with CC solutions LLC, I hoped to learn more about different work types in financial industry. Because I haven’t decided or figured out what I wanted to do after graduation, I tried to explore the variety of jobs and markets that I could possibly work at. And I was also hoping to learn about different countries’ markets as well, just in some broader sense and to get an idea of how other countries’ economy influence the global financial market and US market.

Mostly due to COVID pandemic, I was not able to actually experience the work space and environment. But I think CC Solutions provided a great overview of different nations’ economy by having me to work on the annual Agency Book, which specifically I had to update the national export bank’s official data by searching their official website and going through their annual reports. Although the tasks were not as what I expected, it still provided me the chance to compare and get a general sense of world financial situations.

With the official training provided by CC Solutions LLC, I also got some out-of-classroom knowledge that were really helpful. More importantly, it gave me an overview of how the actual financial markets including financial institutions may look like in our society. And now, I got a sense of the industry and sort of figured out my plans for post-graduation with the help from my internship, which I intended to apply for law schools afterwards just because I want to wait a few years more to enter the market and maybe potentially start my own company in the future with my knowledge in law as well.

I talked about some general changes I had with my internship. But specifically I learnt so many different things about financial industry through the agency book which I was working on. That book pushed me out of my comfortable zone and my area of familiarity that I had to search tons of information online and also to read through different country’s finance agency’s official website in different languages sometimes to get what I need. This was the part where I spent some time to really get myself into and I eventually familiarize myself with the wording that was out-of-classroom.

Another valuable opportunity CC Solutions provided me is the training course. I did learnt a great amount of knowledge that is both different and familiar from what we learnt in class. And that specific course offered more insights on how financial markets function in reality and specifically how financial agencies are affected in different ways.

One last thing I want to add here is some psychological transformation I had. I originally wanted to understand more about the finance industry so that I could figure out what exactly I wish to accomplish in the future or actually right after my graduation. With this internship, I was led by their CEO and thus had the opportunities to talk with him about work or non-work related topics. And one thing I learnt is that we don’t have to feel secure and fully prepared to get started on our life, career and such. But our determination and goals for a big picture need thoughtful and thoroughly reflections to success. As a result, I made up my mind that I want to continue my study after undergraduate degree.
