Global Awareness

In order to explore what it means to be a global citizen I would like to study Spanish culture and Traditional Chinese literature from Ming and Qing dynasty for my General Education course requirements. Although I speak Chinese, however, I never got a chance to study the history, traditions, literature of China since I moved to United States when I was very young. Therefore, I want to learn more about the country where I’m from. I’m also interested in Spanish culture and plan on visiting Spain in the future. Being able to experience the culture and language of Spain will broaden my horizons and open my eyes to the world. By participating in these courses and taking the opportunity to study in Spain, I hope to increasing my understandings other cultures in the world and develop an appreciation for how diverse the world is.

Original Inquiry

As an actuarial science major undergraduate student, there are not many research opportunities related to this field. I plan on applying for internship at the beginning of my sophomore year, and hopefully can starting working during the summer after my sophomore year. The would provide the similar experience as doing a research with science majors because internship allows me to dive into the field and learn what an actuary actually does on a daily basis.

Academic Enrichment

I plan on majoring in Actuarial Science and minoring in both Economic and Computer and Information Science. I will be taking a schedule composed of my major and minor classes and GE’s, and being a member of the honors program at OSU, all of my general education courses are either honors courses or 3000 level and above. The rigorous course schedule allows me to challenge myself and help me striving for academic excellence. In addition, I will be well prepared for my future career since most of my major classes are designed for preparing us for the actuarial exams.

Leadership Development

There are millions of activities to choose from here on campus in order to get involved. I joined a club called Toms Club. Toms club convey the same ideals as the TOMS company: For every pair of shoes purchased from the company, one pair of shoes is donated to someone across the globe who is in need. There are many volunteer opportunities provided by the club, I’ve been to some and enjoyed helping others. I plan on being a part of the officer in the club, it would allow me to develop leadership skills and also make a difference by bring awareness of TOMS shoe’s vision to Ohio State’s Campus.

Service Engagement

As a member of the TOMS club, I have been to an event called Feed Columbus. We had to pack up a food meal for needy families in Columbus and families in other countries that are in need. There are many similar services projects held in the Columbus area, I hope to be a part in as many as the service projects as possible. Volunteering strengths my knowledge of local resources available to solve community needs and also provides me the chance to give back.
