leadership development

From switching to engineering my leadership has developed so much. When in my engineering classes it is imperative that you act as a leader because most of the time other people in the class might not be as dedicated to getting a good grade on the lab report. For example, one of my most recent lab reports that i wrote I had to write the whole thing because my group was not putting forth the effort to help me complete it to get a good grade. So i took it upon myself to write the majority of the lab report even though it took a lot of time and effort. I think that group work teaches people to work with both good and bad group members and allowed me to grow as a leader in general.

academic enrichment

Academic enrichment applies for me more this semester than last because now that i finally switched my major to something i am actually interested in it is easier for me to appreciate what i am studying. One thing about engineering that I like a lot more than being pre medicine is that in engineering the group work is fun because you get to meet people and become close with them over the semester. Engineering has taught me to work with other people more than neuroscience classes did. Like i mentioned before i really enjoy computer programming so being able to do labs that involve writing codes is really fun for me.

original inquiry

For this goal I have gained knowledge in the field of research at ohio state. I did research in Wiseman hall with the neurological surgery department for 6months. I learned a lot about preforming certain types of research and doing different kind of experiments. I preformed PCR, western blots, and preformed surgery on mice. This research was based on cancer and the study of different cellular pathways involved in cancer and also the oncoviruses that can hopefully help cure cancer down the road or improve the recovery process. What i found most interesting about this was doing animal surgeries because I do love animals but it was really interesting to practice suturing and making incisions on the mice. But at the same time it was really sad to see the mice die from cancer but i understood it because it was apart of the scientific process.

About me

My name is jacqueline woskobnick, I am a pre chemical engineering major. I really enjoy being with my friends and also my engineering classes are fun. I love computer programming and i am so glad that engineering has a base in computer programming because it is one of my strong suits.

Year in Review

As a person and a student I have changed. As a person I have grown a lot both in my friendships and my romantic relationships. I have learned a lot about doing what’s best for yourself but also making sure to keep your friends closer to you than ever before in college because if you think about it you don’t have a family on campus so i have made my friends my family. In terms of being a student i have changed because i have put forth more effort into my schoolwork after switching my major, i really like my new major and really enjoy doing calculus again and i love studying it now whereas before i hated studying and memorizing parts of the body and the brain. I think i have realized that i have become more of a problem solver than i thought, which means that my change of major was a good decision.

global awareness

I really have an interest in studying abroad. I think that this will show my appreciation for diversity because I will be able to experience a separate culture and try to understand how my career of engineering could be incorporated in international studies.

Career

Recently switching my major I am a little unsure about what I want to do when I am older, referring to my exact career. But, I have been researching certain careers for myself and I think I want to direct my career in the direction of an engineer that works with organ transplants and skin grafts. Other options would include working in the oil industry.

this picture is a representation of the brain surgery operations we preformed on mice. We implanted brain tumors to test the effect of different oncoviruses.

About Me

My name is Jacqueline Woskobnick and I am a second year health science scholar. My first year in college I majored in Neuroscience and was on the pre medicine track. I continued with this plan until the fall of my Sophomore year where I decided that the time commitment of medical school was not something I could see in my future. I switched my major to Pre-chemical and biomolecular engineering and am currently in my first semester as an engineering student here at Ohio State. I really enjoy organic chemistry and calculus, so chemical engineering has been a good fit for me. I was involved in TEDx freshman year of school, where I coached a professor here at Ohio State to give a TEDtalk. Also my spring semester of freshman year and fall semester of my sophomore year here I participated in research at the Neurological Surgery Department at Ohio State. While doing research I learned how to run PCRs, and Western blots and also preform surgery on mice. The research lab I worked in focused on the treatment of cancer cells with oncoviruses. I really enjoyed doing research and I learned a lot but after switching my major I decided to stop doing research so that I could dedicate my time to my engineering classes this semester. This semester I have been really busy with school and also been involved in Pay it Forward service projects when they come up, and Buckeyes Against Alzheimer’s club here at Ohio State.
