Marino, Gregory. “Columbus’s Genocide.” Columbus’s Genocide, By Gregory Marino, Dec. 2012, ux.brookdalecc.edu/fac/history/Tangents/ARTICLESFORTANGENTS/Columbus%27s%20Genocide.htm.
Excerpt: “He had his flaws and his defects, but they were largely defects of the qualities that made him great—his Indomitable will, his superb faith in God and his own mission as the Christ-bearer to lands beyond the seas, his stubborn persistence despite neglect, poverty and discouragement. But there was no flaw, no dark side to the most outstanding and essential of all his qualities—his seamanship.” There is no doubt that Christopher Columbus has great skill on sailing. However, the author ignored the death of thousands of local residents who lived in Latin America. Even Columbus brought the religion, technology and his great personality to America. He also brought the sexual diseases which almost costs a genocide to the local residents.
Summary: As we all know , the history is written by the victors. But we can not reveal the bad staff Columbus did to the local people. The original purpose for Columbus to colonize America is to get servants and find gold. And he killed so many local people.”They would make fine servants… With fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want” So even he did great achievement on developing a new continent, he was not a good person.

Notes : Christopher Columbus is not the first person visit the “New World”. There are more than three waves of people have been visited the “New World” such as vikings. However, he is the first one to create a trading relation and start to conquer the “New World” which brings the high technology in Europe to America. Also Disease and environmental changes resulted in the destruction of the majority of the native population over time, while Europeans continued to extract natural resources from these territories.
Abstract : Christopher Columbus is deserved to be the first person to find the “New world” because he started to learn sailing when he is really small. He was the son of a wool merchant and he got a job on a ship when he is still a teenager. And he worked on the ship until 19 years old. In an accident , his ship where he worked on was attacked by France. He floated on a log to Lisbon where he studied Mechanics, Astronomy and navigation. They are the essential conditions for him to start his journal to find the “New World”.

notes : He is really cruel to the local tribes and he is a very poor governor. However he is also a guy who never admits his faults. After he make some mistakes, he uses more lies to cover his mistakes. But he also had the passion to pursue his dream with great tenacity and vigor.

Direct quotes: “At the end of his paper, he recounts the way that the surviving Native Indians are being treated. He says that he wouldn’t even compare their treatment to the treatment of animals because they were treated worse than that, they were treated ‘even less than the dung in the streets.’ “ Behind the development of “ New World”, it’s the genocide which created by Columbus. His voyages are not only the start of new life of local Indians but also the destruction for them.
