World Soils Day is a worldwide celebration of soil as a natural resource and a day for advocation and recognition of soil sustainability. The International Union of Soil Sciences first recommended in 2002 that an international day to celebrate soil be created. Afterwards, in December 2013 the United Nations designated December 5 as World Soil Day.
This year the theme of World Soil Day is “Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity”. This theme is meant to promote the benefits of, raise awareness, and address novel research being conducted on soil biodiversity.
