Recap 2019 Staff Council Annual Meeting

On Monday, January 14 Wooster Campus Staff Council (WCSC) hosted its Annual Meeting. The event began with the 2018 Council Chair, Penny Nemitz, and Vice-Chair, Kayla Arnold, presenting a recap of our activities in 2018. Some highlights include the 9th Annual Chili Cook-Off which was attended by almost 150 staff, printing and distribution of WCSC informational pamphlets, a survey of Wooster Campus staff to gain insight into new activities, and our first after hours event at Troutman Vineyards.

Next, Kayla shared updates from CFAES Staff Advisory Council ( CFAES SAC), including that there were 13 staff awards given out in 2018, 3 professional development seminars for staff via Zoom, and ice cream treats provided for staff appreciation. Also, you may recall that CFAES SAC handed out branded water bottles as the staff gift in 2018. Following this, Chrissy Sprouse and Andrew Jordan presented information about the University Staff Advisory Council (USAC). This council consist of 30 members representing employees across the University. They are currently recruiting new members and anyone interested is encouraged to see more information on their website: usac.osu.edu.

The Council also hosted guest speakers Fred Michel and Cathy Herms who presented updates from the Sustainability Committee and recycling program on campus. Closing the event was Jason Veil, Curator of the Secrest Arboretum, who talked about recent changes to their facilities (such as the new welcome center) and an upcoming project to get all of the plants in the Arboretum cataloged online for visitors to view. He also shared some historical photos of the Arboretum, showing some before and after photos since the 2010 tornado.

Our next event will be the 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off; stay tuned for more details!
