Year-in-Review

My second year at OSU is almost over and I can’t believe how quickly it’s flown by. I guess it really is true that, “the days are long but the years are short.” This year was filled with new friends and new experiences and I think I’ve learned and grown a lot from all of it.

One of the main lessons I learned this year was to know your limits. First semester, I was involved in a full course load, serving on the Business Scholars Leadership Council, involved with Off the Lake Productions (a student-run service-based theatre organization), and a musical through Ohio State’s Department of Theatre. One of the courses I was taking was Honors Accounting. I knew that it was something I was capable of but with all of my other involvements, it proved to be impossible and I struggled with accepting failure. On top of that, I simply was chasing prestige and not keeping in mind that I should be working towards someday doing what makes me happy. During this fixed mindset, I thought for a while that investment banking might be up my alley but the administration running the program recognized my true interests and character better than I could myself. It is from this experience that I decided to switch my specialization from Finance to Logistics Management where I would get the opportunity to work heavily in a team setting and work on and improve business processes from start to finish.

Second semester, I decided that I should rush a business fraternity to get more involved within the Fisher College of Business and I am now a member of Phi Chi Theta. Through this, I have met so many people who I know are soon to become life-long friends and I am so excited! My course load is also much more manageable this semester and I decided I had time to continue with Off the Lake Productions where I held a featured ensemble role in the Spring musical production, Big Fish.

Second semester really gave me the opportunity to put into practice all of the positive skills I learned the hard way from first semester and I have every intention to continue in implementing them in the future to maintain my success for my remaining two years here at OSU.

Artifact: “Agony”

I performed the song “Agony” from the musical Into the Woods in Off the Lake Productions’ Cabaret with my new friend Harry Cencer. It was nerve-wracking performing in front of my new peers and many hours of practice came before the final performance but it was a gratifying experience in the end. The future of my involvement with Off the Lake includes my performance in their production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and hopefully other Cabarets.
