Within the Wold Lab, our primary focus is the science of the heart, and our priorities are aligned by authenticity, integrity, loyalty, and respect. As a group of elite cardiologists, our mission and focus go beyond examining the mechanisms responsible for particulate matter-induced heart disease. That’s why the Wold Lab has a reputation for “Never Skipping A Beat.” We embody this motto on a daily basis in numerous ways. “We are a lab of A-team scientists,” Dr. Wold frequently proclaims. His expectations hold the lab to a standard of seeing the bigger picture while also remaining detail oriented when working through the multiple steps of complex experiments. Simply put, we don’t miss a thing.
So why does “Never Skipping A Beat” mean so much to us? We can’t afford to not put our best foot forward. The knowledge we gain through our studies enables us to develop therapeutic strategies to prevent, slow, or reverse the progression to heart failure. In the United States, 1 in 4 people die from some form of heart disease (cdc.gov). By never skipping a beat, we are working to assure that is something no one ever has to worry about. That is why we take our motto and work so seriously. We are passionate about contributing to the science that will assure there are more healthy hearts that always keep beating.
We approach every problem with a solution in hand so that we achieve the goals we set for ourselves. Doing this allows us to maximize our efficiency and production while minimizing stress levels. By “Never Skipping A Beat,” we tackle every challenge head-on by being adaptable and anticipating change because it’s inevitable. Members of our lab are constantly thinking ahead to prevent any task from becoming urgent. The Wold Lab is dedicated to our research because we know that when we benefit, so does everyone else around us.
Sharing our results with the general, scientific, and medical communities also falls within the obligations of our motto. It’s not just about the results but spreading the awareness of how to promote heart health. We believe is effective and frequent communication to guarantee no information slips through the cracks. We share as much as we can to inspire not only our colleagues but to also educate the next generation of scientists. We understand that our work is beyond us, so we won’t miss an opportunity to create an opportunity that may change how we think about the heart.
